hey guys, not sure i am posting this in the right place, but have an old sun football tach with separate transmitter. seem to recall that someone on here can convert these units from batteries to a more reliable system. any help? thanks
Read this thread...It might help you... goes into great detail on the subject http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173589
If the sending unit is ok there is a cheap battery fix. The original battery was 1.40 v. take a new bat. witch will be 1.6v. run it down to 1.4 .They should last 5-6 months. Look in GMC -Chev. truck shop manual 60-64 it will how to calibrate using a battery charger
Williamson's Instrument Service does great work, I have a Sun Tach they did a conversion on and am very happy with it.
Another vote for Williamson's. They converted an EB-1 Transmitter to solid state for use with my RC-50 "Football" tach. It took them a few tries because the car is still 6v positive ground, but they kept working until they got it right.
Old thread, new question. Looking for the wiring harness diagram for hooking up the Sun tach and transmitter box that has been converted by Williamson's.
FWIW the original mercury batteries for these are sold (or were in the last year or two) by some Russian guy on ebay, the vintage camera guys need them for something or other.
