I have a 27 T sedan and I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas or info about alternative front suspensions besides the 1800 dollar mustang 2 or the just as expensive I beam set ups that are currently on the market. I was thinking about a ford twin I beam set up but have only found one vehicle done with that set up.
Are you on the right site? Traditional hotrodding is all about reusing vintage iron when ever possible. A complete original early ibeam axle, wishbones and front spring can be had for less than a hundred $ with a little hunting and or trading. The same goes for spindles and drum brakes. The twin ibeam front suspension is fine in it's origonal application or a mild off road application, but in my opinion it has NO place on am early T.
Twin I beams with all of their stock hardware ins't exactly a pretty looking arangement. Maybe with coil overs in place of the stock springs would help. Also the stock spring rate is for a truck, which would see a lot more weight riding on it than a "T". My 2 cents would be to pick up a used axle and some bones etc. You can play around with mounting it to get the height, or lack of.
My T sedan has MII. Its what was in the frame when I bought the pile O parts. Not pretty. Nowhere near traditional. That sucker drives fabulous though. Handles like a go kart and has the most precise steering of any car ive ever had, new or old.. I wish it was a drop axle, but it isnt.
