I called Napa Auto looking for a rebuild kit for my carburetor. This is what they want to sell me As far as I know I have a Holly 4000 for a 292 but I can not find any numbers on the carb that matches the Napa part description. Does any one know if this is the right kit? Here is a pic of my carb if it helps.
I tried Napa for a rebuild kit for my Holly 390 cfm carb. The first one they gave me was for a 2 barrel & the second was for a Mitsubishi or something. The Napa here in town has gone downhill lately. I ended up dealing with J & M Speed Shop in Riverside, CA. Very knowledgeable & friendly. Got me just what I needed. http://jmspeedcenter.com/
The part from the Napa web site was for a 2bbl 272. But I did find a nice video on rebuilding my carb. MikeCarburetor From watching this video I got the idea of cleaning and lubing all the linkages with silicon spray. After doing this the car has been running great and now I will wait for a rebuild when needed.
You didn't say if you were running an auto trans or not - but the picture seems to show one. On a '56 with a Ford-O-Matic, the height of the pedal off the floor is important to having enough travel to get the kickdown to work. When you "floor it" the carb throttle linkage first travels to WOT - then the linkage starts moving further in the kickdown slot to operate the transmission pressure control rod - the down link. Many cars are found to have had this link adjusted without first providing the proper space under the floor pedal.
I would suggest a pro rebuild and there is a guy in PA that does a great job on the teapots. He even runs them in so they are adjusted correctly. Mike Suter, 215-757-3678 (PA). His prices are the best around.
