I had a set of headers Aluminized more than 35 years ago on an off topic car. They have a rough texture and are still white. I have even seen them glow red, when it was Rochester Fuel Injected, and did not alter the coating.

  2. Had some aluma coated years ago…they were a dull grey..I dripped oil on them when they were hot and it burned into the coating..the stuff was also rough to the touch..can make fun headers even more fun when the it’s like rubbing your knuckles on 80 grit sandpaper

Tip to help painted/coated/chromed, exhaust headers and pipes look better longer is to clean and paint or coat the inside pipes (with high heat paint or coating) before getting the coating added to the outside. This helps cut down the failure of the coating from heat. It also keeps more heat in the pipe and cuts down on temperatures under the hood etc.

What is outrageous in price? I had JH do a set of shorty headers, y pipe for my kids car two years ago, was maybe 500? I had summit ship them to JH, but the price from JH included shipping them back to me.
If JH says the white will last for “XX” years, would sure beat pulling them and redoing them every so often.
Not saying that you’re cheap/etc, but maybe save up the $$ and do it once.

Following this one. I recently had JH quote coating a set of Hooker Super Comps that I have had forever. By the time I ship them and pay for the service I can spend another $150 and just buy new headers that are already coated.

was the same story recently with having a fuel tank cleaned. $500 for a brand new tank or spend $400 to have my original tanked and then I still have to coat the inside and paint the outside… no brainer.

selling my used parts at FMV makes it a brake even proposition

  7. to strip prep and coat my Sanderson lakes headers on my roadster in white was $1400 from jet hot.

I put headers in a garbage bag to install them. Then rip out the bag.

  9. I had no clue as to how white powder coating would hold up but the black has held up well on my cast iron exhaust, this photo was taken recently and the car has been on the road for 13 years now. HRP

I believe we are talking about 2 different things. Powder coat is a paint that cures and reflows at about 350 degrees, you must be talking about a jet hot type coating that is made for exhaust systems and can withstand high temps

  11. I own a powder coat shop. They do make high temp powder coat thats silicone base. The headers on my 51' were powder coated with high temp silver about 22 years ago. The coatings still on, however if you brush up against it changing plugs or something it flakes off. If you leave it alone it stays put.

  12. No sir, the company I deal with only does powder coating, my exhaust is not jet hot coating, I have no other explanation, From what I am told the jet hot coating is expensive, Jimmy charged me 50 bucks to powder coat my exhaust. HRP

That is a great deal, glad it worked out for you...

  14. I haven't tried white but I did have the headers on my old '54 panel coated cast gray. They had a high temp powder and they coated the inside with a sort of copper and they lasted the few years I had the panel.

They're worth an email at least:

Another vote for the Rust-oleum high heat white. Way easier to spray and lasts the same as VHT . IMG_4404.jpeg

I'm not sure of the use on headers but know actual porcelain coating was used for many years by some of the OEMs. on header pipes and exhaust (tail) pipes. However, temperature differences between a header or exhaust manifold are vastly different from the down-stream exhaust system components.

Wow the price at JH has gone way up. I’m pretty sure I had these done during the pandemic. I’ll check my statements for when I had these done.

  20. Here's another product that I have used in the past. Very good results. Not sure how the white holds up? Their white is called "Pure White" up to 1200 degrees. Made by a company called "Dampney" they have a separate website with a bunch of high temp paints available. This is the distributor you can buy direct from. https://net4sale.com/pure-white-stove-paint. I have order from them direct. They offer a high temp primer as well that I have used. Seems to be good stuff!
