  1. Tm, a nice mallory revpol would look right at home on the banger. Just my 2 cents. A buddy is building one now. He was building the intake and exhaust yesterday. He has a Mallory on it. There still around but not necessarily "available".

Installed a new leakless water pump, hoses, and gaskets (including the water outlet). The coolant was pretty dark and all the passages seem to be coated with ‘gunk’. I’m wondering if it is grease from someone using the wrong grease/too much grease in the old water pump. IMG_5223.JPG

  4. TM, the trick back in the day was to install a '66 ?Ford inline 6 water pump. Gets rid of the old and the issues that followed it with a newer style. Some fab work required but pretty simple in the long run. My friend just did this to his banger build. Thought I had a pic but can't find it, yet.
Those older Rev Pols are hard to find. I searched last night across the net but didn't see one for a banger. Could always use a MSD 6 AL and use the current points as a trigger for it. Just another thought.

Took advantage of a nicer day before the snow storm hits.

    No coolant leaks!

  6. You have certainly come a long way in a short time. Good to be able to drive it now. Quite envious for sure.

Thanks greasemonkey54. I am having a great time developing the car. Time for me to start making it mine. I am looking at ways to distinguish it as a unique car yet keep the traditional hot rod vibe going.

Thanks vtwhead. As I’ve mentioned before, I certainly would not be this far along without you guys entertaining my noob questions and providing your recommendations and advice. Great forum and great group of guys here.

I received my reverse eye main rear leaf yesterday. I plan to dig into the chore of removing the rear springs, swapping out the main leaf, and removing a few leaves out of the pack
(not sure which ones or how many yet). I’m going to fab a spreader that will help with the removal of the regular eye and the installation of the reverse eye. Looking forward to any and all of your recommendations and advice.

What are your thoughts on an 81 carb? Would that be too small? What about dual 81s?? Where can I get a 94?

  15. I don't know the bore size of a stock A carb. I can go look at an 81. I know most often it's the LOOK we are after and that's fine as long as we don't go backwards in performance. These motor scan take a little more fuel but not a lot more. Air Fuel ratio is most important. You are better off going rich in lou of Lean so I would want to know how the stock one stacks up next to the 81.

Thanks Pist-n-Broke - I just swapped my order from a 97 to an 81. (Red’s Headers doesn’t sell 94s; however, Vic was very flexible, knowledgeable, and easy to work with). I guess we’ll see. Just to be clear, I will be running one 81 carb with a single down draft intake.

Does anyone have any experience with running one Stromberg 81 on a stock banger?

  18. TM, check over on the Ford Barn. Many members there have used the 81's. You can search there for the results.

Thanks for the responses. I always do my searches before I post my questions here. Lots of times I find what I need. Sometimes I come up short. I’ve been all over the Ford Barn and the H.A.M.B. and found lots of discussions about dual 81s. Very little about running a single 81. Seems like a lot of people have run single and dual 97s with mixed results. I have a single 81 set up on its way. I probably should have just gone all out on dual 81s.

So, I called Stromberg Speed Parts (in England) and talked to their tech guy. He said I should be good with one 81. He said I should actually get better throttle response with the 81 than the 97 on a stock banger. However, he did recommend I use an electric fuel pump and regulator. I now need to research that..... Not sure which pump or regulator or the best place to mount them. I do recall from all the threads I’ve read that some use a Carter Fuel pump and a Holley regulator.

  22. I feel part of the reason for Mixed Results is so many spall things can make changes with the same combination of pieces.

  23. There are 6 volt 4 psi pumps out there. I have had issues using in line regulators in the past holding high psi down to what these carbs like. I just don't go there anymore when you can get one ratted at what you need.

I’m 12 volt. Mr. Stromberg tech guy said I need 2.5 psi max for the 81.

  25. That's less than I'm aware of but won't argue his info. N.A.P.A. has this one in 12V but no on line info how to adjust it. I would look into that. Did Mr. Stromberg have a recomendation?

Any recommendations on a fuel pump?
