    Here is what happened to one of my old dry rotted tires I was using as a roller with the car just sitting in my garage. In other words, I wouldn't run them....

    Blowouts were a lot more common before tubeless tires were common. That tube doesn’t hold much pressure without the tire around it.

    The only tires I have ever had come apart like the one in the picture were radials.

    You have been fortunate! I've seen more bias ply tube type tires blow out then I have seen radial tires blow out. But then again, I worked in a gas station before radials were introduced to the general public, around 72-73.
    The love and trust for bias ply tires is greatly unfounded, there are many reasons tires went to the radial design. A dry rotted tire is junk, regardless of what design or manufacturer's name it has, its only a matter of time. Gene

    Tip one of them on its side and put a piece of glass on top if it and --> BOOM! --> new coffee table!

    Is the 'boom' the sound of the tire exploding? I'm not sure if they would be able to handle such a large load.
