I just bought some straight 7/8" radius rods from Speedway that are threaded 5/8" unf. When I put the Heim into them they feel loose -not real bad but not as tight as the ones I thread . They screw in very easy. Mine that I made have a tighter feel. Should I be concerned?
When you cut them yourself, you probably have a higher thread contact percentage than theirs do. Ive found the same thing on ones I make vs store bought m*** produced.
Should I worry about Pulling loads ? Like the Heim pulling out of the rod? Pretty crummy work if you ask me.
If you don't feel right about it now you never will no matter what anyone tells you. It's your *** in the seat! Use your own judgement. A guy capable of making his own radius rods or ladder bars should know if the threads are ok or not. You have them there in front of you. Sometimes the Chinese don't buy a standard 5/8 fine thread tap- they convert it over to decimals and round up, then they make a tap that size to produce exactly to their rounded over math.
If they weren't threaded correctly, send them back. It's not only your life on the line, but the lives of your p***engers and the other drivers on the road. You noticed the looseness and were concerned enough about it to present it on the forum. Go with your gut !!
Thanks guys--They are going back to Speedway. Actually these rods are BLACK which isn't even listed in the catalog. Damn I have the worst luck on parts. I only bought them because I needed them NOW.
