    Hey Fellas

anyone know how toy tighten up a loose wing window. My driver side is loose and at speed the wind will push it closed. I’ve heard of an adjustment location but not sure where. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated , thanks to the group!!

You might be able to carefully buck the rivet on the top pivot. Just go gently and check it after each tap. You can tighten them up but if it gets too tight you’ll have to drill out and replace.

Edit; unless you’ve got some sort of adjustment as suggested below

Most of the Ford wing windows that I have come across have a spring located on the stud that extends into the door. It is threaded with a nut, I guess for adjusting. I don't know if you can get at it the ***embly is installed in the door. You would have to remove the upholstery and take a look.

I had lose wings on my 54. if you pop of the door panel you can access the spring and nut pail mentioned. I believe it's a ½" I put a couple extensions on a ratchet and it works like a.champ! good luck!

Vince, Both of the wind wings on our wagon were shot and would not stay open at any speed, after removing the entire vent window frame and gl*** I realized that the lower pivot was rusted and had broken.

I found a replacement pivot at C & G antique auto in California, the replacements were for a 54 Ford truck but it looks the same and fits like a glove.

I sandblasted, repainted and installed the winding pivots.

I bought new stainless and window channel and started re***embling everything.

Thanks to photobucket the rest of my photos are missing, there are some small disc that and a spring that fits on the bottom of the pivot and a nut that adds pressure to the nubs on these disc.

I am searching some old post trying to locate the images.

BTW< I can open the vents and drive at 70 MPH and they stay in place. HRP

If the OP's car is a '59 as suggested by his username, it won't be anything like what was described above.

I agree. My gl*** was set by a gl*** shop and I installed it all. I don't recall any type of adjustment on these windows. My driver-side is a little loose if I'm up over 60. I live with it.

Not sure about '59, but '57s have a pivot at the top (under the garnish rail) that has a clamp that can be used to tighten the window. That pivot is poor design. At first glance, it looks to be a stout 3/8 where the clamp is, but it necks down to about 1/8" diameter, and that's where they break.
