When you make a new panel, like you did in post #886, do you just overlap the metal underneath, or do you cut it out and butt weld? Or do you leave a flange to overlap on?

cave it and pave it ...

  6. the problem here is not the bondo...its the metal shaping..every car out there that has had some type of kustom work done to it has some type of filler on it...its how u use it what makes it bad..if you dont prep and clean your area correctly even with LEAD it will be a bad job...

  7. first i spot weld it over the existing metal..then trim it out and butt weld..

is the metal on that roof supposed to look rusty or was water getting in there or they used some old metal and just covered it

  9. once you get a crack on your filler..moist and water will get in and rust will start to form..

I know of a guy here in the springs that does it just that way. Push it into place and then use filler. Guess it is good enough? Not quite IMO

Man you guys push some work out of that place! When you overlap your panels and then cut and but weld what do you cut with? Ive found that a cut off wheel leaves a bigger gap than I can reliably fill.

I'm still seeing "overlap", not butt welding. Butt welding means flush on the old piece to the new, so less filler needed.

  15. That merc is over lapped...if we flushed it the whole roof would need to be redone...
I use my plasma gives me a perfect cut for BUTT WELDS...YES I Do KNow WhaT BUtT weLD MEANS..

Hey Jesse, one of the busiest people I know! I just want to say Thankyou for giving my nephew a job! I know its been a while but after reading most of this post. Holy Haters! You know opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and most of them stink! I think everyone does everything different. And you have your own style. Don't take offense at the idiotic comments! The day your cars don't sell, think about changing your style.Lol. Jesse, me and John have a lot of respect for you. You do alot and people don't know it or see it. It's easy to stroke your own ego and criticize others. But actions speak louder than words. You probably don't hear this to often, Thank You! You know we are here when you need anything. Wise words .....

Lets not tarnish this thread with any more replies to the antagonist ....

And lets not forget what Jesse does for his community , not everybody has the advantages that most of us take for granted .

  24. thanks guys...hey wazzaap eddie, naa i dont let no one get me down, its all good. you know me i do what i do with a passion,.... you know just last week i fired 3 guys who worked for me..and one was a cousin of mine...all 3 of them were smoking out at my shop,,,after i found out i called my cuz and told him not to come back..he turned around and tells me DON'T FORGET WHERE I CAME FROM..one thing i will never forget is that..WHERE I CAME FROM AND HOW HARD IT HAS BEEN TO GET WHERE I AM TODAY.
I remember just before i opened up my shop i was a truck driver for a big company, my boss told me i would not make it one year if i opened up a shop,,it will be TEN YEARS since i heard them words, and till this days those same words are what keep me going,..as for his BIG COMPANY..A YEAR AFTER I LEFT, IT CLOSED DOWN...
