In a sense, I can empathize with the guy. He had the foresight to figure out a way to keep these preserved and stored for the next generations in his family. No one in my family ever did that.

ok, what are the old guys reasons? my guess is that if they were locked up, they hold some memories, maybe just when he was younger, better times, who knows??? just do some recon at night, get those ****ers, leave him some money and foget the girl-it could be genetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly, someday he'll p*** on and these cars will still be around for someone to buy and do something with. I beleive that not all of the "stuff" that's out there should be discovered now. Leave some for future generations. Enjoy what you do have now.

Thats the way to preserve cars.. as long as there is air to circulate.. some day they will be available.. just keep a close watch.. at least you know where they are at..

Hows about,,some one who is older "wants " to one day fix these cars ??

and I would doubt he has the $$ to go out and find one in this condition,,let alone the whole new car fad,,and prices that are'nt even realistic..

if they were mine,,they would stay there as well and when I could I would do something with them,,but at least I would have them and thats 1/2 the battle

also ,,,what reason does he need ?? why the hell does he have to explain himself to anyone ?? He stored them like that for a reason,,there his

all these people who think they are en***led to something cause no one is using it at the time,,gezzzzzzzzz

The guy had the foresight to collect and appropriately save some nice old cars... How many of us do this?
He probably keeps them hidden so they don't end up bagged and painted flat black with red wheels.

  8. I agree, you need to marry the granddaughter. In time, she will be sentimental about the cars because they belonged to Grandpa. I have seen young people have a total change of at***ude about old cars after riding in or driving one. Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup went from "****y" to "cool" in under 9 seconds the first time one of my daughters rode in it.

There's lots of guys like that. They have some great old tin and won't sell, trade or ever do anyhthing with them. They're called w"hoarders". The only useful thing they are doing in cases like this where the stuff is stored inside, is preserving the cars for future generations. But don't give up - although I think that in some perverse way these hoarders like the attention they bring upon themselves, and enjoy seeing the frustration in the rest of us.

Ignore all of rants about the old guy being a ****. His property, his choice.
Like was said, he had some reason to allow you into his confidence, and it probably has something to do with you helping out. Keep on doing what you are doing, with or without the girl.
Hell, he might be your new best friend.

Whine, whine, whine. They're his plain and simple. Thank your lucky stars, because if he showed them to you, he must like you and trust you.

    Take the advice of the Hambers above;
Get to know the old guy well and learn from him.
Help him out when you can without expecting something back.
Get the girlfriend interested in the things you like, especially old cars.
Be patient, plant a few seeds, think of others before yourself, and who knows, you might end up with the girl, and the cars.

I can guarantee you, come into my yard with your holier than thou at***ude, and I'll ****** you off pronto. Come into my yard without an invite, and if you're lucky you'll get to see the business end of a Remington 870. Try it at night over my fence, and you might learn what the phrase "split shot and fishline" means firsthand.

I agree at least he's got them all in storage buildings out of the weather and out of the dirt. They look like they are in good shape and that's because he put them in there. If it makes him happy good for him. They'll be no worse for wear when they do move onto another owner...

Stay in touch with him and don't tick the kids off an have money available for if and. when. It may be cold blooded but the only you are going touch any of those cars is wait until he dies and have cash ready then and there as I would imagine the son will sell them for the first cash in hand offer. The bigger fit you throw the more the price will go up.
I've seen it way too often, the old man hords stuff thinking he will leave it to his kids and they sell it off for dimes on the dollar because someone came along with cash green money then and there. No sense ******* an moaning now. Wait until they are sold out from under you for that.

these posts always crack me up.

not for sale and the son is going to junk them. did you mention the current value of the cars you see? "they are all nice and driven into the trailers". is that 39 a coupe? did you tell him you could get $10,000 or $20,000.00 for it? maybe more depending on condition?

in every one of these posts that come up an offer is never mentioned. "not for sale" and you just give up.

they are out there...i found my 57 nomad squirrelled away in a semi trailer, and my uncle has a 56 belair 4dr sedan that was left to him by a relative. he has it stored in a semi trailer, the car should be a museum piece, 29,468 mi, ALL original, less the plug wires and oil filter. never even had the air filter changed. but there is sits because he's not ready to do anything with it....it kills me! aargh!

Pretend they don't exist. They are the owner's cars, period.

If he wants to put a torch to the whole lot, he can legally do that.

If he wants to bury them half-in the ground, ala Cadillac Ranch, he can do that.

If he wants to sell them at some future time, I'm sure he'll head straight to the HAMB and advertise them all, where hordes of willing buyers/liberators will be willing to pay no more than a hundred bucks apiece for these cars, just to "punish" him for being an evil hoarder.

The response of: "You need to have him declared legally insane or incompetent and liberate that stuff. Gary" is probably the most ridiculous response I've ever seen on the HAMB to any question. That is being far more selfish than the fact the guy has the cars stashed away.

Got any freinds with a NICE old car Y'all could hang out with and arrange for his missus to make a pizza run in the old chariot with your missus riding shotgun? convert her, she's probably thinking one car thoughts. show her the drive a cheap new economy car with a warrantee and have fun with a cl***ic. Nobody turns their head for a honda.
I'll bet if she's yours for keeps she could talk gramps out of one or two of those if he saw they'd be cared for...family heirlooms
