As of tonight, I am the proud owner of Joe morano's "lost art" 49 Buick custom it is in really sad shape it caught fire a few years ago and has been hiding out in a garage in Vancouver wa but I am looking for as much info on the car I can get I can't post pics yet, I got my camera wet on my boat so...... But I would like to know as much as I can about this car. Thanks....chip
Found this, but it is a Joe Morano's '41 Ford called "Lost Art" maybe he just liked the name http://www.webridestv.com/showvideo.aspx?video=42335
No matter how they spell it on TV, Joe's last name is "Moreno." HIS "Lost Art" Ford is alive and well, including the flame throwers . . .
Fantastic car... I have been wondering for years what ever happend to it. Can you please show some photos of how it looks today. Here are a few photos of it in better days. (Custom Rodder and R&C Magazine articles ... all I have) Steve Stanford artwork...
Chip, I hope you don't recreate that interior. That's a lil' much color for anyone other than the San Fransisco limp wristed crowd. How ya been? Cool car on the outside. Let's get some pics of it's current state.
That was about my thought as well. I always loved the car.. but that 80's interior I could never understand in this work of Art.
Every custom I see on here with Cadillac trim has someone spouting off that "He must have really wanted a Cadillac."...........If he wanted a Cadillac, he would've built a Cadillac. Using Kad trim on a Kustom is about as traditional as you kan get. Rick
Have to agree about the interior.....I always started feeling a little dizzy looking at it. I love that it used the big 320 straight eight though. Congratulations Chip, on your find, and good luck on the rebuild. I'd say use some different colors...maybe tone it down a tad....make it your own. The car wasn't built so long ago that it would be a sin to change it. Rick
Love that car! Please bring it back to it's former glory, though I agree with "toning down" the interior!
Chip, Congratulations on the acquisition, I always loved the styling of that car. I remember when that car caught fire, I had no idea it was in Vancouver, how long has it been there?
Hi chip ! Congrats to the fantastic custom -49 Buick . I meet Joe once and he was a very engaged custom guy like my self and told me about his -41 and how he reseched the carson top making on that car . However this -49 Buick Roadmaster is just as fantastic as a custom can be built , ofcause a product of its time with lakepipes and bucket seats but never the less a beautyful redesign on the original -49 Buick . Im very "pre53" and ofcause golden era customs (-48-53) are my absolute favorit , with a bench seats , full tucknroll and possibly a set of Appletons and no lakepipes this be a total golden era custom car icon . How he got all the nice goodies like -49 Buick back bumper and -49 Buick sweapspear sidetrim (a first at late -49 Buick Roadmaster only ) together with the -48-49 Cadillac taillights and rear fenders and the -50 Cadillac grill and Olds front bumper is simply brilliant custom car design . Yes I want to see this fantastic custom again , thankyou for making the major undertaking bringing it back ! Wolf
This is scary, Last weekend I was going through my old magazines and was wondering what ever happen to that Buick. Very Kool kustom and a project worth jumping into. Good luck with getting her back on the road, Like to see some pictures as is..... Please post them if you can. Happy Trails, Mick
That is really great to find a car like that. I'd love to see what it looks like today. I cant help but think that possibly Id have lit the interior on fire also though......
you got to wonder if 30-40 years from now someone would look at that interior and say "look at this cool 90's interior, they don't do them like that anymore"
I dont know if I want to see the pic currently because Rikster spoiled it with those nice pictures from the past... I am going to hate to see it burned!
Come on.....it's a great looking car.....but I have to agree. Seems that it would have been a lot easier to put a Buick hood on a Caddy.
Ok, Ok...I'm open-minded so I see your point. With the Cad grille, etc. and rear fender pieces, it looks pretty close to a...well, a Cadillac, but it's not. Following the tradition of using higher-end trim on custom, there was only one choice...Cadillac. Buick bodies have their own look...I believe Roadmasters have a longer hood than any Caddy of the era, and there are other features unique to Buick. If it was a Cadillac, it sure wouldn't have that 320. Anyway, peace mon. Rick
P.S. It's just that over the decades that customs have been built, I've never heard the "He must have really wanted a whatever" comment until recently. Cheers.
