Don Carlton was the wizard behind the original Mopar Missile. He left (or maybe was left) the team and put together his own version.

Shirley Shahan ran these AMC-bodied P/S cars in addition to the Gremlin posted by loveoftiki (which I had never seen before!). Of course, Shirley was an ace in SS and Stock cl*** racing.

A couple of cars that got me hooked on Pro Stock.

Early 70s Pro Stock is my favorite drag genre, in the first five years development was at a fast pace. A six month old car might be completely outdated in 1970 - 72.

A friend of mine has this Nicholson Maverick, he bought it back in the '80's. I think it was built by Don Hardy? Chick DeNinno did an update on it and it runs a Lee Edwards/Sonny Leonard motor.

Anything goes! Maskin would later run a Hornet-bodied car that won a few races. This is from the Aug., '72 issue of SS&DI.

Collett was another fuel racer (dragsters) who stuck his toe into the PS waters...

He was killed in a Missle car at Milan testing for Chrysler. They had one car called the wire car as the body was held together by wire and those cars were Chrysler's early computer work with sensors all over the car. At least that is what I have read.

Isn't the Gapp & Roush Pinto and the Glidden & Allen Pinto the same car? I seem to recall reading that somewhere that Glidden bought it from them... Not that everything I read is true though.

While the Fadley Maverick was not a P/S car but a Super Modified it does have a bit of P/S history to it as it was bought by Mike Edwards who later ran P/S.

Wonder where all the old Pro Stock cars are. This Nova ended up in Oklahoma as a bracket car. IMG_3351.jpeg IMG_3355.jpeg IMG_0443.jpeg

In 79 Glidden showed just how good he was, in 78 I believe he won all but three races for the championship and in 79 Ford wasn’t paying up so he signed on with Mopar and won the championship with them. I remember an article where Bob said the sbm was a sbc with goofy valve train. ;)
