That also says MII. Street rod interior...
So, add it up: OT for the HAMB, gay color scheme...why do we have to worry about it?

Pony up and paint it black and stop whining. Or **** it up.

Just put on a wig, hair kerchief and some white cat eye sungl***es, force the dog to ride shotgun (with dark sungl***es) and you'll fit that that current paint job just fine...lol

Yeah, Larry Watson sure did hate spraying pinks and purples didn't he! (sarcasm).

As mentioned by Hot Rods ta Hell, it's not really the colors but how they were used. Get rid of that red stripe, and maybe get more of the raspberry pink on the roof, (check two-toning on the 32 5w below) chrome reverse wheels and narrow whitewalls, I think it would look great. Many pink / purp / rasp / lavender / whatever you call it customs and hot rods in the late '50s to mid '60s.

Pretty sure the 32 was painted by Watson, all the other ones below were for sure.

Yep, nothing wrong with purple, pink, violet, raspberry. It's all up to how it is applied.

Just as an example of what a couple of different color changes would look like...The possibilities are endless

I had a '29 a few years ago that had a ****py paint job. The top wasn't too bad but the lower half was full of runs and uneven paint. I rattle canned the bottom half satin black and it came out okay (I thought). It was a fun little car. Wish I had kept it.

It sure was ugly when I bought it!

    Phillips...

You're arguing a point no one made, it wasn't ***erted that pink/purple were a negative and shouldn't be used or that Watson didn't use them.. but the particular shade on the truck was less than stellar and your de-emphasis on color importance makes me understand why..

I by no means am a Watson expert but in my mind part of what made him was colorization choice down to an exact shade of a particular color.... I look at some of his stuff and its hard to believe it was produced in the time frame it was.. my mind starts to think in terms of coloration sophistication they have to be modern but they aren't.. color/shade is part of the genius imo..

So to sum it up you spent all your money on a Custom and now you want a Hot Rod? I think the simplest thing would be a light scuff of just the clearcoat do a meticulous masking and spray it your Black have your fun then when you sell clean off the top layer and respray the clear ...voila you've got your expensive paint job
I know I know the perfectionists are pulling out their hair but this is hot rodding 101 you just got the thing now you have to send it off to some paint shop? **** you'll be lucky to get it back in 2 years you'll have a m***ive bill and you won't get your truck back until its paid in full ....then you'll be back and forth for another year getting them to fix overspray, orange peel and the bugs they sprayed into the paint etc. etc.

One more vote for drive the wheels off it while saving up for the paint job you actually want and collecting the pieces you want to change to make it yours. If you want it all black I can't see spending the money to change part of the paint only to redo it later. A hot rod truck that isn't the right color but still looks great to others and drives great is still a hell of a lot better than one torn down in the garage waiting for the coin to do it the way you want. A lot of miles, a few rock chips and a good excuse to change the paint when the time comes.

My apologies for the unnecessary and unwarranted sarcasm. I'm not sure why my post was thought to be de-emphasizing color, it was intended to show that colors in that family were used frequently in that time frame, often by Watson but certainly not limited to his personal cars or customers. Taking into account differences in photo and camera technology, scanned vs. direct digital shot, and of course monitor differences, these seem pretty close to me. Thanks to Rik and Custom Car Chronicle for the treasure trove of Watson photos.

  16. Yep. The truck is cool
Just needs a little work on the top and belt color

Add some scallops, lace, pinstripes .....

Then maybe a few of the illusive flake Naugas can give up their hides

  19. If you've always wanted a black '35-'37 truck then make it black. Life is too short for compromise. The most expensive part of a paint job is the bodywork and this truck looks pretty decent. If you handled all the dis***embly and re***embly I would think the paint job would be a pretty reasonable cost and you would have the truck of your dreams.

Anything less and you'll be talking yourself into it...

That silver top makes the roof seem very tall, at least in the photos. How about a darker hue of the purple?

Thanks to everyone for the Photoshop, its really helping. What about solid color with black running boards and fenders ?

  24. Sure, that will look good. Black and raspberry look good together as I posted earlier.
When I did those Harley tins,,, they went raspberry and cleared. Then I used a custom mixed black candy and shot it free hand on the wet sanded clear so I ended up with the fade. Wet sanded that to get the fade consistent and remove any black candy that wasn't supposed to be there. To most people it appears as if the raspberry was put on the black
Then cleared the whole thing again. You could do that same process very very easily on your truck and it would be relatively cheap.

But if you did the SOLID color top and the fender and running boards black then you're aBout 3/4 of the way into a repaint of the color you really want aren't you?

    Phillips,

Yea, without having the cars side by side a color comparison can be difficult, but to me the caddy says timeless cool and the truck 90's or whatever loud berry.. but I seem to be more inclined to color ap***ude I think. The caddilacs hue seems to be more dead but in a good way that makes it less in your face and more visually appealing.

I guess that's why some are who they are, a slight difference can make or break..

No offense to anyone, just trying to build a better mouse trap..

What a fuss. My brother has one of these pickups. I can't even remember the colors. Body us one color, fenders another; and, he doesn't drive it enough. What if you were suddenly color blind? Would you think less of the paint and more of the truck? The blessings of owning something is it's yours 'til you die. Of course, there's always another choice. Paint is in the strictest and most formal sense is applied to metal in order to prevent rust. Keeping something precious to you, in the fullness of time, allows many alterations to enhance your appreciation of it further. In speaking of color, at least as theory, black is actually the absence of light, and thus not a 'color'. The spare on the side appeals to the function versus form side of us. And, yes. Other than the Guide's with parking/turn pod, Commercials are nice, even if they stand out like Dumbo's ears on the more streamlined fenders and hood. Plus, these fine machines need hood sides. If it overheats because of them, put louvers on your list.
