My horn ****on was the only devise on my 39 pickup not working which bugged me so I was convinced the wire running up thru the steering tube needed replacing. I had check it with my tester and had nothing. I took the switch off the gearbox, removed the c clip and pulled the rod/horn ****on up about 6 or 8 inches (being full removal is a pain). I then bent the 4 tabs that hold the horn ****on to the steering cap and removed it , cleaned every surface , did a quick test before re***embly and the dang thing was fixed, then re***embled and rechecked and still working. Been a good day.
Down the road, when you least expect it, you will pay dearly for todays good fortune. When a job goes unexpectedly easy for me, I patiently wait for the payback. It will arrive when it's good and ready. But it will arrive.
Said that when I sub-framed my 57 PU with a 77 Impala SW front section. The steering column lined up perfectly with the steering box. Haven't worked on it for quite a while but I know it's waiting. No good deed goes unpunished.
I hear you. There's been several times I've put off a job, anticipating a big h***le, nothing fits, etc etc. Then, go to do the job, and it just falls in to place! Should've done this a long time ago. But, there are a lot more jobs, where I say, "Should have that back in an hour" and 2 days later, it is.
I've been putting off changing the noisy leaking header to head gasket on the p***enger side of the 330" Desoto hemi in my 36 Ford p/u. The fenders are so in the way and the lower bolts go into the water jacket so leaking coolant just adds another dimension. I going on a 150 mile cruise this Saturday and decided now is the time. It went fairly well and solved the problem! I've been dreading this task most of this summer.
