Planning for my project, and one of the things I want to do is get a better paint job than I have been able to do so far. My compressor has always been my achilies heel. However, i started some searches, and I am finding some of the newer guns run at incredibly low CFM. Here is an example I found. Any thoughts on these? Anyone ever used some of the low cfm guns? Can you really use them with a smaller compressor? http://www.spraygunworld.com/products/Asturo/IndexECOSx.html
I ***ume you are talking about HVLP paint guns. They are quite widely used in the Canadian market. They offer very efficient product transfer, and do operate at a lower pressure. More paint on the car.Less overspray in the air, However, they still reqire a reasonable amount of air volume. Usually the air lines are stepped up to 3/8ths line to get the increased air volume. What are you using for a compressor?
I don't have much of a compressor...That is my point. If you look at the the link I posted, their guns work at 4.5 CFM of air at 40 PSI.... I have used HVLP myself, but I have been debating on some of these guns due to their low CFM draw.
I bought the Eastwood gun for low cfm's. I've used it once on a firewall, seems okay. The real test will be a complete respray on my F-1 (that'll be awhile though). I've also bought one of the TIP tools turbine systems, haven't tried it yet. I'm certainly a rank amateur but the old Sharpe siphon guns shoot best for me. I'm sure it's a matter of experience and practice. My .02.
dont see how it can atomize the paint all that good. might be better off just puttin paint in a old spray bottle and going to town.
You might do better in your search for info if you got the terminology more correct. The HV in HVLP stands for high volume......so in reality you can't have a low volume high volume spray gun. You're looking for an LVLP, low volume low pressure gun (yeah the link you posted up probably threw you off, either they're dumb, lazy, or think that confusing people helps). Here's some discussion, and if you search LVLP you'll find much more: http://www.spraygunworld.com/Information2/LVLP.htm
I've seen the eastwood gun, the concours, which is an lvlp. I'm interested in the lvlp also since my oil less compressor is marginal for air tools. I don't know who makes the eastwood gun, but it's likely made for them by a common manufacturer at a slightly higher price.
I would also be interested in anyone's opinion on these guns that has used one. I have been looking into the Eastwood guns as well. Are they better than anything you can buy at Harbor Freight? (though I think the HF one's are HVLP guns)
Pretty much all spray guns are the same to a newbie at painting, and i would recomend going with a cheap gun as they are a little more forgiving at times. I started with an eastwood gun. If you like that gun get it, try it out. A great spray gun does not make a great painter, its technique and prep that does that. This was my first all over with an $89 spray gun... Something like what your looking at.
