Who makes a good low mount alt bracket for small block chevy's. Wanna move mine on the 327 down low on the p***enger side. I found some on egay but they were either for the drivers side or mounted way to low. I just want it down in front of the fuel pump. Thanks.

Speedway Motors has one. I have had theres on my car for 5 years with no problems

  3. well . it depends on if you are using a long water pump or short water pump .if you want to have it in front of your stock mechanical fuel pump and use a short pump....i think there won't be any room

with a long pump , alan grove makes a low mounted alternator mount for the p***emnger side...part # 215-alt

I better clairify myself on this one. I do use the lower bracket from speedway #916-67900 (says in book for left side only)with a short water pump on the right side. My alt. sets under the fuel pump and the fuel pump I use is for I think it was 83 229 v 6 or the early 4.3. Anyway my fuel pump has the can on top not the bottom giving it enough room to mount alt. My car has a 4.3 chevy in it but we did this same thing to a friends SBC

  6. i didn't know something like that is available. could you find out what exactly the fuel pump is off ? maybe a picture? this might come in handy sometime.. like maybe not having to notch the front crossmember on a `35-`40 frame for fuel pump clearance

i checked napaonline and couln't find the pump by your description

    Alan Grove Components Rule !

You get what you pay for, and his stuff is engineered right.

This one(first picture) would probably work for you on the right side as you have described, with a short pump. The second one might work, but I think you will have problems with the lower hose.

Thanks guys. I got a Speedway catalog at home I just hadn't looked in it yet. It came with Alan Grove brackets on it and I really like em but they mount high and close and I'd really like folks to see the motor a little better. I found some like the second diagram but I think that will be to low in my 63 chevy truck and hit the crossmember. I'm gonna measure tonight to see exactly how much room I've got. I also like flyin j's idea. I'll definately write that down for future reference.

Low mounted alternators are prone to failure from water, I learned the hard way some years ago.

I got out to the shop last night and really looked at it. THere's no way I can ust the really low mounts because of the crossmember. What ****s worse is there are no holes in the block or heads on the p***enger side. I got a short water pump but the only holes on the p***enger side are the two for the water pump and the fuel pump ones on the side. I like the aln grove one that mounts beside the water pump but it's only for long pumps. My crank pully has 3 grooves and the outer one is in front of the other 2 that were used for the p/s and alt. Would a long pump bracket line up with that outer groove? Anyone done this?

I think that one of the speedway ones can be mounted on either side.

if you find yourself needing the cylinder head mounting holes, alan grove makes a bracket that puts the holes up there. check out the whole catalog for ideas.

fwiw, if i had a short water pump i'd be looking for a stock '67-'72 chevy truck alternator brackets.

THanks, I'll check into that. I 've got access to alot of those trucks close by. Do they mount decently out of the way. THe Alan grove bracket for heads w/no holes says it's just for the lwp. I really like his mid mount bracket but it only lists for LWP's .

I'm starting to think I would be a whole lot happier if I just switched to a long water pump. The short one came on the motor and even though it's in good shape it would really be no big deal to swith it. Anyone agree or disagree?

  16. there is nothing wrong with a long pump , if you have the room. most times in a rod you don't , so you end up using a short for clearance

    long pump is 1-1/2" longer

have you looked at alan groves alt mount that puts the alternator high and tight above the manifold on the p***enger side? part number 200R-ALT. it uses the upper water pump hole and an intake manifold bolt to mount , DOES NOT need hole in the head

about the truck alt mount mentioned before....actually it is a SMOG pump mounting bracket. mount likes the alan grove , uses water pump and intake bolt, no head holes.....if you can't find one , speedway sells a copy in their catalog for about $50

I got plenty of room in the 63, about 2 feet to the radiator literally. I have the Alan bracket that came with it that mounts it high over the drivers side but I want it low and out of the way so you can see the motor better. Alan Grove had one that mounts beside the water pump on the p*** side that I really like but it only fits the long pump. I'll probably just switch to a long pump and be happy. Thanks guys.

here is the bracket I am going with, it is from East Coast Auto Electric, they have about any bracket you could want, I am also using one of their alternators, I don't see why you couldn't flip it around, all the pieces should allow you to do so. their website is http://www.ecae.com.

    good luck
