I am about to fix a model A bench seat into my ‘29 coupe and am short on ideas for how to mount it to the floor. It would be great to see a few ideas on how others have tackled the problem. The car has a 4” chop and I am 5’ 10”. I could just screw the wooden base straight to the sub rails, which would give me the best position, but it seems a bit crude. I would like to use some kind of bracket or frame. Maybe even some form of tilting mechanism? Thanks LT
Not a bench seat but this may give you some inspiration of sorts. I wanted any little bit of extra legroom (and steering wheel) in my roadster and as most everbody knows you can only relocate seats rearward in the early cars so much. This is a piece of 1&1/2"x3" rectangular tubing cut lengthwise corner to corner on a bandsaw. In my case it worked well as the buckets are lowbacks and are able to be mounted so the top of the backrest tucks under the tulip panel, somewhat further forward that what can be achieved with a straight up/down position.
I fabricated these. They are 1" tall. They mount to the floor then sliders mount on top, then seat frame on top of sliders. Just 1 x 1 angle and 1 x 2 rectangular tubing all 1/8 thick. Pieces fabricated, blasted, cleaned, then TIG welded and painted. Sliders are 1 inch tall so 2 inches off floor.
^^^^^ The brown Santa just dropped these off on Friday, l just took them out of the box and they feel quite substantial. Phil
