I've been disassembling the old style 48 Ford-Lincoln overdrive transmission to replace a broken synchronizer hub. I'm puzzled by a pin on the output shaft that keeps the low-reverse gear from coming off. Never seen one before, can't guess why it would be necessary, the shift fork limits the travel of the gear.

What to do, grind, drill, leave out when reassembling?
    Thanks
    Abe
