Yep I’m an Iowa native also, turned cheese squeezer although I’m only about 4 or 5 miles away from Iowa.

Yep I’m a Hawkeye but I’ve been on the other side of the cheese curtain for a couple decades now.

 

A bit late to this thread but just look up the artist “Teen Angel” and it’ll basically explain everything. Pachucos during the 40s and early/mid 50s era just drove early kustoms and hot rods but wore the zoot suits with the DA hairdo but in the mid 50s it phased out for the more common look of khakis, black spit shine shoes and white T- Shirts and slicked back hair (The DA pompadours where popular after in or around Tijuana but phased out later around the 60s). The lowriders as it is today came around the early 60s. In the coastal community there are all sorts of custom cars and hot rods driving around. Some times the low centered sedans need some help. The low profile tires and smaller size rims look nice, but are so close to the ground that hazards we all take for granted are felt like a giant boulder bump was the cause.

Our daily driver suspensions are used with high end shocks and springs, plus most tires are supportive for fancy cornering and turning, but yet give off a quality ride in comfort. My time in an old lowered custom car proved the point of a ton of additions make a nice looking car for the type and series, but the ride is questionable.

As most daily drivers eventually change tires due to wear and consistent road hazards, some low profile tires and abnormal suspension at odd angles and heights make a wearing out situation more plausible. This cool looking Impala is getting a re-do exchange for more lowered custom car cruising locally and beyond.

The 63-64 Chevy Impala we drove around as teenagers certainly had style and comfort with good suspension and A/C. But, it was not our daily driver, it was a borrowed friend’s dad’s car for those hot summer nights with the windows rolled up and the A/C blasting… YRMV
