An all too obvious Low-Tech Tip from the Low-Tech Redneck…

Five years ago I needed to shape some metal and did not have the tools, or the know-how… So I devised a plan…

Try this just to see if you like it and see if you have any “ability” before you go spend $ on the right tools….

After trying this, if you find out you are interested and actually have some “ability”… go buy the right tools and feel better about spending the coin!

    Ingredients:

    Dog/Cat Food bag.

    Duct tape.

    Sand.

    • Fill dog food bag partially with desired amount of sand.
    • Fold bag over and wrap it around itself if possible. (make the shape of a pillow)
    • Wrap the entire bag with duct tape in one direction, then turn 90 degrees and wrap in that direction.
You are done… find some sheetmetal and go POUND SAND! J

    Sorry I don’t have any better pix…

Good idea. I did something similar with the sleeve off of a leather jacket years ago. Worked quite well. Wayno

    Good idea...

The real redneck tech would be showing us how to lower a car - with heavy bags of sand.

yeah.. I really thought he was gonna tell me how to lower my car by putting sand bags in the trunk, and under the floor mats in the seating compartment.

(not that I've ever done such a thing.................. lmao)

I agree! The timing is perfect. Trying to form some "birds mouths" on the ends of some header pipes!

Hummm .... wonder if the dog will miss dinner tonight?

Call it a double low-tech post. After yer done pounding the bag, chunk it in the trunk, or bed.

Or you can go out and buy grass seed in a burlap bag. By an old leather jacket from goodwill. Cover the bag with the jacket and pound to your hearts delight.

Not trying to snake your idea, just wanted to add some different angles to it.

Flipper, I gotta use the sand bags in my 1972 Nova. I gotta put a bunch up front, on the front fender wells. Ever since I put 6" shackles in the back and some cool yellow******** bars - I just can't keep the front wheels on the ground...
Just thinking about it makes me want to drive it down to the gas station. The chicks that hang out there will surely wanna go cruise - 'cause my car is so bad.

I have seen Danny's panel bags. They are extra nice and extra cheap.

hi guys , john kelly stole his wifes leather purse and filled it with sand zipped it up and used for a portable sand bag, also since were talking cheap heres a hammer i made from a baseball bat. (copied from kerry pinkerton on the www.metalmeet.com site.) i`ve used the bat hammer quite a bit and its held up surprisingly well.
