So what do you think of this guy's idea to use the hairpin as a lower shock mount ?

That's a whale of a lot stronger and safer than those goofy clamp together setups somebody sells.

I'd like to know what that chrome donkey **** is to the right under the headlamp with the red label on it. I imagine it is a steering damper but wonder why it is there. A correctly installed and working Ford style front end has no need of such silliness.

It looks like the sterring damper is there cus the cross link is in front of the axle... But it does seem way to the side.

Im with ya the fact ya dont need one if you set up yer front end correctlly

  5. UN-SAFE, the lower bolt is taking more shear force than it was designed for.

I didn't even notice it when I saw the car. That's definitely a So-Cal steering damper, but it's at a weird angle, since the tie rod is so far in front of the mounting point. That probably doesn't work correctly.

"Total performance" ? T bucket front ends mount the shocks that way.
    Doesn't make it right though.

Looking at the picture closer, see how the perch is throught the batwing.
Batwing is welded to the tube axle.
It is a T-bucket front end.

Take a look at the front end on Frankenshine.
The shocks AND spring hang off the hairpins.
And he's got a few miles on it by now.

As long as all the components are designed correctly,
    it is not a problem.

Use cheap components, and the wrong materials,
you might have to walk home some day.

At least it looks like he's got some suspension travel.

The shackles are at 45 degrees, and the shocks are not bottomed out.
    Not like some cars.

AND he's got brakes on the front wheels.
