Pics: www.leslehman.com/48 Want to lower this 48 ford, on a budget, all stock underneath, should I just reverse the springeyes and do a drop axel low buck, or save up and go crazy? If choosing the latter, what would you recommend?
Reversed eye springs, with a few leaves removed. Dropped axle. Long shackles but only with Panhard "sway" bars front and rear. NICE CAR!
Just keep it simple. The original springs in my 48 tudor broke like glass when they were out of the car and dropped on the ground so I shot them out for safety's sake. If this were my car I'd run Posies Superslides on both ends (3" drop in front, 2-1/2" drop in back), update to tubular shocks all around and rebuild the stock suspension, steering and brakes. I did this to my '48 except I swapped in a parellel rear spring set-up. I also made some urethane bushings for the OEM panhard bars and I may install a larger front sway bar than what Ford has in there now. Very simple to do and its not too expensive. No dropping steering arms, no radical changes in the geometry....It'll be low enough to look cool, high enough to drive into any driveway and it'll ride and handle even better than it does now. -Bigchief.
These cars have both panhard and sway bars (they do different jobs) on both ends of the car from the factory. -Bigchief.
Yea, six decades ago they did but that doesn't mean they're still on this or any other particular one though, so I mentioned it.
It still has all of the OE stuff, I'd like to see the homemade bushings as I can't find new ones anywhere. Superslide springs are where I am leaning as Posies has a in da dirt kit that doesn't look too bad.
