I am stuck in the house with a broken collar bone so no work on the chevy.. Looking at the photos how much should I lower the rear ? I have the fatman dropped spindles kit in the frount , I hope to make my own blocks for the rear any tips.. Anyone fancy doin a photoshop on her for me ? I am goin crazy not being able to work on her.. any help would be great.
I don't know what you have in mind but here's a couple. One is pretty level and the other has some rake. Both are not too low, to keep them driveable.
One of my buddies is running 4" blocks with no problems, saw one out last year with 6" ones looked dodgy though, ends of the "U" bolts were less than 2" from the ground.

I would lower the car as much as possible.You can't beat the look of a slammed sled but I have to admit my photoshop pic is a little bit over the top though.I also prefer skirts on sleds but I agree,yours looks good without skirts too.I also shaved the gas door. Shit it looks good on the deck Now you have got me thinking about bags in the rear!! I could live with that ,and I have a set of skirts for her . I hope the doc says I need to get my arm moveing I will get get to work on her.. KopperK I was think 3 to 4 inch blocks .
That Chevy's looking great. You've come a long way on it. I sometimes like skirts on'em but I think I like Donzie's rearward rake pick the best. It looks both cool and drivable to me. Plus you don't have to pay for bags. A chara, go mbíodh biseach ort gan mhoill. I hope your collar bone heals quick.
I had 4" blocks on my Chevy and ran 'em with no problems but when I extended my fenders for the Packard taillights and '56 Chevy bumper the overhang made it hard to back out of my driveway. I replaced the blocks with Posies Supersliders without blocks. The car drives like a dream but it''s not as low as I'd like.
Were the 4" blocks with a stock style closed drivetrain? or open. I've heard that 3 was as low as you can go w/o the torque tube hitting, my 54 is 3" down, w/o problems, but wouldn't mind another inch or sooo..... Cheap way of lowering... 3"x4" steel....drill the 2 locating holes, U-bolts from NAPA, and away you go, or nightprowlers has a cheap set of blocks and ubolts
Not trying to hijack but how low can you go in the front without hampering the steering with stock rim and tire size? i too have the fatman drop spindles in but want to go lower. thanks PS. Love the shaved light look but i have to agree that fender skirts will make a huge difference in height appearence.

Right now it can go different directions: 1) early-mid fifties style kustom: skirts, but not as low as Frenz' photochop the way I see it. Think more like Sam Barris Merc-low, than bagged-low. Your taillight-idea points in this direction. 2) late fifties kustom: no skirts, lower than above an posibbly on a rake. The conservative, but nicely proportioned chopjob points in this direction. Both will be cool. You guys in the rustless states should have a "HAMB-find-a decent rustfree rearbumper and ship it to Belfast", rather than a HAMB-chop.
Sailor,like I already mentioned within my post,my photoshop lowering job is just too much.Somewhere between typical '50's stance and bagged would look best.Again,the Quesnel Merc is a prime example.
Don't forget about mounting casters that stick out just below your rear bumper. I have some (fixed type, not the swiveling type) on my car, they work great. You can feel the car ride on the casters but your regular drive wheels still work to move the car.

I like your idea about the bumber !! I was at the docs today what a bunch of dicks ,Got a xray, my collar bone has a half inch gap ,he says I may need a steel rod in there to line it up .This happened near 3 weeks ago ,I need fixed I am on crapy sick pay . Sorry for the rant ,This is really fruking this year up.Oh and I think my engine has just seized up I was running her today and it started to stall I knocked it off now it will not turn over !!! it never rains but it pours.. I will just keep takin the tablets
