Wondering what my options are for lowering the front end of my 48 chevy using stock frame. Anyone have a good solution without sacrificing handling/ride?
I am doing it to mine, 3" drop axle and change to an open drive rear with blocks. I have all the parts just have not had the time. Also doing an S10 5 speed.
Lowering blocks work good, if that's not enough, then a dropped axle. Search LOWERING CHEVY FRONT AXLE, there are 132 posts.
How do you put lowering blocks on front axle tha is under the spring(stupid) that raises the truck and if you put axle on top it throws geometry off bad drives squirrely.DUH
just curious how does putting the axle on top throw the geometry off. we flip 4x4 axles all the time.
This is with the stock I beam axle. Swapping it on top of the front springs can get the truck super low but getting it to drive right can be a bear. You can cheat and pull a couple of leaves from the front springs but it rides like hell and handles worse. Been there done that and had the sore arms from constantly having to herd the truck. Posies sells a two leaf front spring for the AD trucks that will drop them 3 inches. that along with a dropped axle would have it down in the dirt. It wouldn't be cheap though as those are spendy springs.
Dropped 4" axle, pull two leafs at each corner and 3" blocks, good stuff! Right now I have 4" blocks in the rear and will be changing to 3" blocks as it hits the bump stops a little to much for my taste!
Work your way through this thread - mainly pics, but you'll get the idea. http://www.killbillet.com/showthread.php?t=2098 I've got a speedway drop tube front axle for my '41 and going for blocks on the rear. Terry.
