I was going to block the rear to lower it some, but I'm not sure where to find longer versions of the flat-bottomed u-bolts that hold the stock axle to the leaf spring - any ideas? Doen't sound like something I ought to make out of all-thread....

  3. I bought some for 3-4" blocks at local parts house, I believe Dorman makes them.

When I bought my 4" blocks from Chevs of the 40's, they came with the longer, correct u-bolts.

Cool, thanks guys. I live in BFE so nothing is readily available - appreciate the help.

The guys that do alot of off the road stuff have them on there 4/wheel drive trucks, they just go the other direction! I picked up a used set at a swap meet last weekend, 10 bucks, 3" block, extra long U bolts.

I've used BRS kit, it can be had with or without blocks, plus it centers the axle,if you are using stock springs....:D

Do you run stock size tires? I want to 4" in the back of my 51 chevy but wasn't sure if i'd get tire rub or hit anything going that low.
    Thanks

You should have plenty of room I was running 235/75/15 and diddn't rub on ant thing...but my rear axle ( 9in ) on deep pot holes would come up and smack the frame.

Krupanut has 4inchers and dosent have a problem with his tires either.

No problem with the tires but I do smack the frame on sometimes.
Regularly with people in the back seat.
