i have already brought the front down and now i want to take care of the rear. i was thinking about flipping the axle but im not sure how much that will give me..or if itll be too much (maine back roads suck haha) anybody have any tips for me? what do i need to take care of before i do it? any help will be appreciated! thanks -ronny
Flip the axle, or you can de-arch the springs, or you can use lowering blocks. just take some basic measurements to make sure you get it where you want it. If you want it in the dirt youll probably have to c-notch the frame or youll be ridin the bump stops.
Must have leave's and not rear coil's. If you flip the rear the drop will be the leaf pack + the rear housing......around 5". Alot, esp. w/ shock's that need to be 3" shorter. I do not know if there is a rear hanger kit for these. The hanger is the rear spring mount. You could (work!) remove bed and drill/cut rivet's that hold leaf pack and move them up a few inches'.
what do you mean by move the leaf pack up a few inches? i guess im having a brain fart, i cant even picture what youre talking about haha. and how would i go about de-arching the springs?
just guessing, but would a flip kit for a 73-87 work, they are leaf, and a very similar frame, I would just use lowering blocks if you want to go lower than the 5 that the flip provides... you can also do a pipe notch in the frame if you are running into clearance issues.
I think he is saying remove the spring hanger from the frame, and re mount it up higher on the framerail..
here is a link to a thread that deals with a 60-66 leaf drop: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=389599
that link was sweet, i dont have 150 bucks or the equipment to notch so i think that ill try taking out some leafs until i can afford the other stuff. who knows maybe that'll be enough of a drop for me. thanks again!
