i have 4" blocks on the back and now i want to lower the front what would be the best way while i collect bag parts, ive heard that cuting coils is going to give me a horrible ride
I cut a little over 1 coil out of my 52 pontiac 2dr post in order to match the 3"+ blocks in the back. I didn't drive the car very far before I sold it to another HAMBer "Donohue". In that short distance I didn't think it rode bad at all (over driveways, down alleys, thru potholes). However, I had planned on t******* the snubs in half and getting some firmer shocks to compensate for it bottoming out. I will cut the same out of the coils this next time and make similar blocks for my 52 hardtop. s.
This is my buddys 49 Poncho and he have 3 block in rear and cut 1 1/2turns on the front coils. The ride is excellent with no bottoming out what so ever.
You can also put a spacer between the lower A-arm and the spring pocket (lots of drilling out rivets, but otherwise a straightforward job). A 1-inch spacer will give you about a 3 inch drop. You keep your springs and shocks at their normal length, with gives a less stiff ride than cutting the springs. You might bottom out a little easier, though. Ride quality is very subjective, but I would say the car I did this on rode better than stock UNTIL I hit a sharp bump, at which it would bottom out pretty hard.
