I recently went to install 2" lowering blocks on my mercury. Pulled the U bolts off and separated the axel cradle from the leaf spring perch and noticed a 1.5 inch steel lip with a rubber nub thing sticking out of it.

The blocks I bought were just generic 2" block kit from advanced auto.

Cause of this thing I couldnt get good contact with the new block installed.

I dont have the means here in my current living situation to fab any of my own blocks so I was wondering if anyone out there has dealt with this issue before and how they got around it.

    Thanks in advance.

OK, first things first! What is the width of your springs. Not that rubber pc, but how wide is your leaf spring. I believe it to be 2" wide? If so, you probably have the wrong blocks, as Advanced Auto and normal parts stores seem to carry ONLY 2-1/2" wide blocks which will not and should not try to be used on narrower springs.
If your springs are 2" wide then we, at "Butch's Cool Stuff", along with "Kool Rides", "JAMCO SUspension" manufacture and carry the correct blocks for your 1962 Meteor. Also, I believe that the regular Auto Parts stores only have U-Bolts that are 1/2" diameter threads. I believe that your 1962 may have the 7/16" diameter U-Bolts which we make special for 60/64 Falcons & Comets and other similar cars.
As far as that rubber thing on your spring center area, you will need to remove that and the correct blocks will then fit fine. We have to remove that STUFF on lots of earlier Fords, like my '54 was. Hope I have helped. Butch

NEVER GOT YOUR REPLY TO MY MESSAGE BELOW?? MUST HAVE U-BOLT THREAD DIAMETER SIZE ALONG (7/16" OR 1/2") WITH LEAF SPRING WIDTH (2" WIDE OR 2-1/2" WIDE) in order to tell what kit you need??

thought Id just give an update on what I ended up doing with lowering my merc.... incase someone finds them self in a similar situation.

The lip on the spring perch was getting in the way so I grinded down the block to get it to fit over the metal lip.

This is an early stage of the grinding process. I evened it out and made it a smoother and cleaner fit.

Then I removed the excess piece of rubber that was sticking up and the block then sat completely on the perch.

Installed the new U-bolts, lined them up with where the old ones sat (so they werent touching the brake line) and tightened it all down.

After all that the inflated tire wouldnt fit into the well with the axel sitting higher, so I deflated the tire, installed it and reflated the tire and lowered to the ground.

With every new thing I take on I learn a ton from it so... on to the next thing ... new -3" springs for the front.
