It's going to some time for me to get use to it. That bounce is something else when it's driven!

You are riding on the bump stops! Those are LOW! Can you trim the bump stop down a bit? Give it a bit more travel?

I havent decided or not that I like it that low. I really was surprised when I lowered the car off the jack stands! This is my first suspension to rebuild. Do you think that it looks too low?

Well it looks good but it also looks like you have no suspension travel left which aint good. I think its a bit too much.

put the stock coils back in and trim a bit. My g/f had a 64 galaxie wagon. That's what we did. Rode fine after. Did the disc conversion from an LTD. Same as the bird from those years. Dropped it a few inches with the combo. But as just stated, to damn low. You turn to much, you will fuck up those fenders. And that sux! Those look nice. Well, from here anyway.

Yeah, they're nearly mint minus paint of course. Yeah, I thnk that I'm going to place the stocker back in. Do you recall how much you trimmed off the coil?

one coil. Start there, put it back, bounce onthe car, and see where you are. mAybe drive it a few days. You can always take more, but never add it back!

back on the jack stands for old coil implant! I've decided that it is entirely too low. May cut a coil out of them to get a bit of a lower stance. So, what's the rule of thumb: one coil = 1"? Or is it 2"?

Looks great but I know that would be way to low for the speed bumps that my council have installed in so many roads. I am going the shock waves on front and air over coils on back.

    Why?
So your car can be too low and you can hack at the stock ones, after all that work?
I think the dude got some lousy advise on those springs.

    Your car looks low now.

Yeah, I wouldn't do it. I wasted a lot of time putting those in. I may just cut a 1/2 coil or a coil to get the hight that I want. Dearborn sales the lowered spring but they have to manufacture them and it take weeks even months before you get them. They cost a little over $200.

Yeah those are the springs i used. There's a lot of difference between those and the original ones. If you saw the original springs that came out of the Galaxy, you would be in disbelief. They're gigantic!

Has anybody cut coils on a 64 Galaxie? Im wanting a 1" to 2" drop. What's the rule of thumb for these beasts?

they are big. That's for sure! 1/2 coil is hard to do due to how the coil sits in the pocket top and bottom for that car anyway. Just double check your self before you guess at it. That's all I am sayin!

That's why I'm asking so many questions before I do this. So, taking a full coil out would be the best option due to how the spring fit in the pocket? how much of a drop will I get if I take a coil out?

not sure. We got about 1 inch. But she had the 390 in that fat heffer of a car. there are variables for sure. I would just do 1 coil. Then do more after you drive it around. Let it settle. See if you want to do more out of it first.

Would it be safe to say that 1 coil = 1"? 2 coils = 2"?

Not sure. Depends on motor/trans and a bunch of variables. It has worked that way on a few cars I have had in the past. But not all. I cut a coil on my 67 suburban with a 75 subframe. Dropped a HELL of a lot more than one inch.

1 coil will likely be more than 1" if you are going to cut the stock ones just go no more than 1 coil at a time its trial and error.

I am sorry those didnt work for your 64 I do have them in my 51 and have seen them used in alot of other applications too, I know up thru 57's that have worked well.

Here is a pic of the springs I used next to the stock 51 springs that were heated with a torch to lower it previously so they were already shorter than they originally were.

Dude, it's cool ... Live and learn. Already now folks know what their Galaxies will look like with them in. Heres a pic with the coils side by side. It should've told me right away that it wouldn't work. Hard headed!

Would coil spring spacers work to lift it up? Maybe the kind that fit on top of the coil?

fuck the spacers. It would work. But one more thing to have wear out later. What's the point? You have to get in there to put the spacer in regardless. Might as well just put the coil spring in and see what you think.

Thought I would dial in on the topic. I just finished installing into my 64 Country Squire the following items.
Rear - 2" lowering blocks with KYB gas shocks
Front - Aerostar coils and Monroe Gas shocks
215-70-14 Tigerpaw Piner white walls on the stock Kelsey Hayes 14x6 steelies.
Got a nice set of 64 XL hubcaps going on next.

Man this thing is low the frame sits about 4" off the ground this includes the cross member and power steering ram.
My car is a 289 / Cruisomatic manual brakes / PS.
Tried to drive it down my dirt drive full of bumps and ridges the side exhaust 2 1/2 pipe exit in front off the rear wheels "pencil tips" only sits about 2" oof the ground. Hand built exhaust with 5.0 BBK shorty headers, and long tube Cherry Bombs.
The trans crossmember hits the high dirt spots and man I was afraid of getting it stuck so I backed it into the shop.
Not sure of the ride height, add a tank of fuel, the spare, tool box and this thing may get to low to drive safely. If I add people man I may be asking for it, dont want to bottom out the power steering box, or oil pan.

Will the front springs settle more? how much rebound will I get driving it anybody this low have you scrapped any vital parts under the car?
DO I KEEP IT LOW or raise it back up I intend on weekend cruising it.
