So as most people know you can lower and early ford by either a drop axle, reversed springs eyes or dropped spindles. I was thinking the other day that theoretically you could drop the ride height by having longer shackles. so why not makes adjustable shackles out of Heim joints to raise and lower the height as if you had a Coilover system? Just want to get some thoughts on this.
Dropped spindles? '32 Ford spindles are reported to be 1/2" drop over later ones. Model A -'34 spring is on top of the axle...won't work. '35 -48 spring in front can use longer shackles, but they don't work as well as stock. Best to have shackles at approx 45 degree from spring to radius rod hanger. So what's the advantage if you have to get your wrenches out to adjust them up or down?
1. What for 2. Why 3. refer No1 Make it safe, don't go lower than you can drive safely (assuming street car) leave it there...... stop talking to the import guys, you don't need anything fluro coloured you don't need 300 way rebound adjustment on your shocks, nothing on your car should have "Takata" or "Bride" on it, before it gets to be too late write 100 times "I am not a drift pig"
Going around a cormer with long shackles you couldn't hold it in a 4 acre field,no need to try and re-invent the wheel. HRP
You young Guys crack me up! My advice is when you think you have a NEW idea about Old Cars just try it. Then maybe you can tell us Old Farts something we missed. The Wizzard
Eons ago some guys would change the front cross member. I think the change was to put a model-A front cross member in a '32. Recall that it was "flatter".
Using longer shackles was standard procedure on transverse sprung "fat" Fords back when I was a kid. Yes, on both ends! Yup, they were low but were dangerous as all gitout! Most of 'em ended upside-down as I recall.
