Looking for advise on ways to lower my styleline, do not want to put it on the pavement, just looking for a better stance than stock, something I can do without alot of work or money!
No matter what you do, it will require some work. You can take your front springs out and cut them. Or for about $100 or so, you can get some 3" lowering springs. I think it's worth it. For your rear springs, you can have them re-arched or buy a set of lowering springs for about $300-400. Again, if yours are worn, it may be worth it. Expensive though. Obviously, lowering blocks can be used with or without lower rear springs depending on how low you want to go. At the end of the day, it can cost you $0 or $2000 depending on how you do it. Plenty of info here if you search for it.
Dropped uprights / steering arms and new springs up front. New leafs, shocks and maybe blocks and a notch out back if youve got the dough. Or stepped A arms and cut coils if your a good welder and on a tight budget. Then use 3 inch blocks and pull a leaf out back add some air shocks and the ride is sill reasonable. Remember, it takes doing some work to save some money so dont be afraid to get dirty.. That should get you looking a whole lot better. Much more than that requires some more serious work on these cars. Lots of different techniques have been covered here before if you search around a little. Good luck, post some pics when you get done!
I'm sure there are other places but I've bought twice from Jamco. They're slow so don't expect to get them quickly. They make nice stuff though. Or just load it up with fat chicks.
x2 for Jamco lowered front and rear springs and blocks. Posies also makes lowered rear springs for the '50. Try these... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97139 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72871 Peter
