I was wondering if anyone knew any websites on the web that can show you how to lower a 1953 Chevy truck. I want to lower mine however I took it to a local shop and got a quote. (Just under a $1000.00) They said they’d put a 4 inch dropped axle on the front & 4inch lowering blocks in the rear to level it out. I think I can do it myself, however I am intimidated because I’m not sure if I need to do any cutting and welding. I am sure if I had a cheat sheet I could do it or maybe some instructions. I wonder if there any websites that offer that. thanks

I've put one of Sid's dropped axles on my '53. It's a do-it-yourself project but it does involve flipping the tie rod, and possibly modifying the steering arms and pitman arm. He's got a lot of good info on his website www.droppedaxles.com

I was thinking i can do the rear drop pretty easy. I can get two sets of 2" inch blocks and take out two leaf from the springs to make it smooth, thats what he did on step 42 from the article. but he used 2 sets of 1 1/2" blocks, and i could not find those 'SPEEDWAY".

As for the front, I am concerned with the steering linkage. on step 32 he talks about choosing to keep your original style rods or repalcing them with later models. I am unsure of how to approach this.

Do i have to remove the pitman arm for it to work with the new dropped axle? When i type in the part number for both the 12" tie Rod & the 46" tie Rod (916-32514&916-32504 - steps 31-32) it directs me to this tie rod - Tie Rod/Drag Link Kits - 11/16 Tie Rod End

Is there a way i can buy a 4" dropped axle and put the new spindles on it before mounting like he did in step 24 & then purchase the correct tie rods that easily mount to the pitmin arm and the steering arm. Step 31. I dont htink i want to modify anything like in step 32a.

So i guess im stuck on which tie rods to order and the will they fit into the pitman arm, if i leave that one alone (besides cleaning it very good).

    please help

    Thanks.

Contact Sid by e-mail or phone. He can supply you with everything you need, and can mount your spindles for you if you want.
