Lowering the 51 Plymouth, parts on the way

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fadingfastsd, Aug 18, 2008.

  1. Hey guys, I'm dropping the 51 Plymouth Concord, and I'll post all my info in here as I go about it.

I just ordered the 3" drop blocks from Hot Rod & Custom Supply:

    http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...~S2FZ0XQIQZ76246183050g~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z50000013x

These are made for the 1 3/4" leafs on the Plymouth.
The kit was $59.99 I believe, including 3" blocks and u-bolts and hardware.

I'll post up pics when I get the kit and of the install.

Now on to figuring out my front drop options and tires!

  2. fat man dropped uprights or cut those coils.

  3. Can I get some more info on cutting the coils?

How much should I cut to get even with the 3" blocks in the back?

Also, will the stock length shock/control arms/spindle all be positioned ok for a lower spring? It seems like using a shorter coil without compensating with any of the other suspension parts would mess with the camber?

    Thanks!

  4. Man you aren't messing around...good for you...get, wrench it, drop it, drive it

  5. Nope! I love this thing. The more I drive it....I know its a keeper.

This things going low...all the engine parts from Stovebolt are on the way.

Then paint, and its gonna cruise.

I'm building myself a badass little hot rod like I've always wanted, and I'm pretty excited about it.

IMHO the best way to do the front is with the Fatman drop knuckles, while you are in there do the "Shock Mod" (Moves the upper shock mount to the frame) and I'd personally throw on a set of disc brakes. There are a couple of kits out there, I am a Cheep Baztad, so I made my own, I used the stock hubs, drilled out the rivets for the drums, and put a set of Grand Cherokee rotors on the front (Had to turn the OD of the hub down ~ .080) and made some brackets out of 3/8" plate to mount a set of GM Non-metric calipers. (Found them cheap 15.00 for the pair rebuilt and Cad plated with mounting hardware at a warehouse clearance sale) I've got ~ 80.00 Total in my front disc brake swap.

If you are going to drop front three inches to match the rear. You should look into getting a 2" dropped uprights or 3" if they have them. If need be cut the spring to attain the 3" you are looking for. lowering the front three inches will require the shock mount to be relocated to allow the shock to have the proper amount of travel.
