I think I did read that before, or at least something very similar by you. Been awhile. Very relatable. Yes, Monday .... no suit, though

 

Yeah, that acceptance shit is way over-rated!

 

I don't wear suits, but rather business casual in a County office, yes this is on 'their' computer.
I had dreams of riding around in my 40 truck going from builder to builder in SoCal. Photographing the latest build or product. The life looked great, I had friends in the 'biz'. But the economy went south along with my health. I saw my friends get cut by the 'Corporate Bosses', to protect their own paychecks.
Ryan, you worked hard and have kept the Faith.

Certain irony here as I just finished reading a biography of Robert E. Petersen and every photo showed him in a suit!

 

"Hot Rods To Hell" Last time I wore a suit was at a funeral. Next time will probably be mine! Oh wait, I am to be cremated. Relief, I can skip the suit.

 

Top of the mountain dude. Long climb ..... wasn't it ??? Feels good I hope. No .... f#ck that .... you better be enjoying it thoroughly. Deservedly so.

Neat story boss but I was expecting to see some Zoot Suits and a 48 Stylemaster.
By the way, the rental car could have been worse, it could have been a PT Cruiser.

 

makes me think of the quote "dress for the man you want to be, "dress for the job you want" or "person you want to become" but in the long run ...... "it isn't even skin deep"........

The early part of my working career was spent as a shop ironworker. Coveralls over heavy blue jeans, heavy work shirt, and under a welding hood all day and steel toed shoes. Eventually all that faded out here and went to foreign shores. In '88 I got on at Boeing and took a job as a manufacturing Engineer. As a liaison in the factories blue jeans/everyday shirts were the dress. In '89 I took a position as a field rep/manager on the east cost (New England states) that required a suit and tie every day) Imagine a former Ironworker in a shirt and tie. My assignment was at Grumman aircraft on Long Island but I traveled often to other east coast states. On Long Island there were car shows, and Wednesday and Friday night car runs each week. The first couple I attended in my suit, (no tie) when leaving the plant, man did I feel out of place. So I started taking a change of blue jeans or shorts along and bought a couple of the local car show T shirts to change into. Ahh...…….that was the car guy in me coming out and it felt sooooooo good. I returned to Boeing Seattle permanently in late 92 and haven't had the suit on since, I hate that thing and it ain't a cheap one. Wish there was a used suit market.

 

Geeze, talk about hitting close to home, to the point that just over the weekend, i had a very lucid dream that I quit my very cushy, well enough paying laboratory job to go work at a buddy's paint shop. I don't wear a suit, or really even wear what would be considered business casual, (coincidentally a dickies tshirt and jeans right now) and my bigwig supervisor even gets a kick out of asking me what I've been working on, asking to see pictures and telling some stories from when he was younger playing with cars, but it still feels like it might be time for a change sooner than later.

 

That's strange that you said Huntington Beach. Back in my BMX days, circa '77, I was out in SoCal with a group of riders from a couple of factory teams. We were into racing as much as any kids in the country and most of us spent time at car lots and machine shops, so we loved anything mechanical. We were between events heading to the beach when we saw a 63 Impala pull up at the light. Here we are in a big old Country Squire wagon and these guys take notice of the looks we are giving and they proceed to put on a show. As we pulled away from the light and gathered speed, they let it hit the ground, sparks a flyin' and took great delight in seeing that there were several guero faces pasted to the side window.....

 

I've worn the same thing since high school: jeans, western shirts with snaps instead of buttons, and western boots. Oh, and a cap. My uniform no matter what job I was doing. Gonna be planted in them, too.

 

I have had hydraulics on my car since I was 17. But I haven`t owned a new suit in my life. Wore a few used ones, but that`s been when I was in my twenty`s. I do have a nice pair of pants and a dress shirt. But I call them my funeral cloths.

I remember wearing a suit for a while back 40 years ago when I tried selling insurance. Found out I wasn't an insurance salesman. Went from there right into a Midas Muffler shop doing front end work where I went home so damned dirty after doing far more muffler work than front end work that my wife made me take my clothes off in the utility room before going in the house.
I'd say that one of the huge causes for stress, strokes and heart attacks in this country is the simple fact that all too many of us subscribed to the idea that we have to have this "job or position" that is acceptable and we have to climb the ladder in said job as a measure of our success or we have to continually reach for higher rungs on that ladder or a new ladder to please others rather than doing what we really want to do in life.
That doesn't mean staying in a go no where entry level job because you are complaisant or unwilling to take on more responsibility but instead means that one should get up in the morning excited about what they were going to do at work today rather than dreading going to work just because said work produces a good paycheck.
I've got a cousin I haven't seen in a long time who spent years in the Huntington beach area climbing the corporate ladder that I got word on has turned his hobby of beer making into a new career as a brewmaster. That goes right with doing what you enjoy and making a living at it.

 

Life is too short for suits.
I have a suit. My brother in law gave it to me 30 years ago. It's gray with beige pinstripes going up and down. I think it was 30 years old when he gave it to me. I hate it.

 

Wow, a lot of hate on for suits. I appreciate them for the design and construction as didactic my father and grandfather. I like ties to Asia see thoseas akind of pinstriping. Now I don't wear one every day and I did taper off before I retired but day to day its jeans and T-shirts now. I wear them now on special occasions as a signof respect for the situation or person being honoured. That's how I was brought up. I'm anticipating some flaming for my views...

 

Smokem if ya gotem as they say.
Even when I was a svelte 190 lbs I felt like a fish outa water in a suit, wasn't a good look on me, and you really don't want to see me in a swim suit now either, not a pretty sight.

 

If these guys say a suite is cool, it's cool!
