  5. On page 4 there is a picture of Earl Greenwoods Caprice.. A tribute to Elvis.. True story.. Earl was part of Elvis' "crew" in Memphis.. When he came to california, he got hooked on lowriders.. He walked into the dealer and picked out the car he wanted.. Told them that Elvis Presley would be paying for it.. They thought he was a bit nuts... Until the check arrived..
If I remember correctly... Crazy Art. (Arts custom colors) did the paint.. It had photos of, and newspaper clippings of Elvis embedded in the paint.. It looked pretty damn cool.. Gary and Larry (the twins) from baldwin park and I did the hydros in the car,,

Newest thing I saw was 57... still seems ok to me but it is a little newer than most here like. The craftsmanship on some is amazing

That car looks pretty sweet, Toss on some astros, pinner whites, I think a deep candy blue would set it off like crazy (with loads of silver flake), swap out the black top for a white top (or no top, and a nice panel job on the roof) white guts, buckets in front and back with a flowing consol, a mild hydraulic set up, and then so everybody knows you've got a hot rodder side, slam a 440 under the hood with some nice go fast goodies, top it all off with a small fortune worth of chrome...and you'd be cruisin' in one bad ass ride....

    No way !
REAL Low Riders are from Santa Ana, East L.A., and San Jose ! Think post Larry Watson, thats where these guys got their idea's - changed it a bit , but were still majorly influenced by him.

I've always been more of a Street Racer, Muscle car, Hot Rod guy , ...but i do appreciate all the extensive work that has always gone in to a lot of those cars. I really liked the "Livin the Low Life" episode where the Low Rider club went to Pomona Swap to buy extremely rare aftermarket accessories for their 40's Chevies.

I'm no Low Rider expert by no means BUT , i grew up in the early 70's in Santa Ana, and that town was full of candy colored cars. One thing i remember hasn't been done yet and i'd like someone to answer why. I distinctly remember seeing lowered cars with Cragars, thin whites, brake drums painted white, wheel wells painted white, and gas tanks painted white. Might sound funny to some but it really stood out back then.......

Groucho, Here's a video for you and Jav's (who's now a lurker) but pretends he aint.

Me too, but lately been really digging early mild customs/lowrider stuff....and my wife's Impala shows it...haha.

Weren't Cragars a more expensive wheel back then as opposed to Supremes??? Hence not as many cars with them?

I have an old R&C Annual with a pic of a '67 Camaro RS, SLAMMED on Cragars and thin whites...it's fucking badass man.....

    Oh....I like that '65!

Ok, so from what my dad and his friends have told me....Cragars were more $$ than Supremes, but if you were hot shit ya ran wires (Cragar Star Wires, and Tru Spokes)....

I love the idea of a muscle car as a lowrider... 1 reason is if it was done now days, it would pis alot of people off...:D....And really the 'Stangs, and 'Maros look good on the ground with period lowrider rollin' stock... I still want a 2dr Vega Wagon...or a Corvair, to do up as a lowrider...I think that would be sweet. I'm not going to mention my ideas on a lowrider style Datsun pick up though.....

Respect the lowrider traditions, not to build a car to piss off someone.

Most lowriders were two-doors as well, I like lowriders.

  26. I have several Corvairs you could choose from. They go from mild to wild!

The only reason it would piss someone off is because people today (except for lowrider people) wouldn't understand it... That's why I like it.

Didn't somebody post the bottom 'vair up a while back...(I think it was in a wrecking yard???) could be wrong...either way it looks cool.
