I agree with g***erfreak. Let the flaming begin. But, in all fairness, I post about O/T stuff all the time. Mebbe these should carry a slightly O/T tag on the ***le. -Crew
Viva La O/T......F.Y.I dumb***es....Ryan used to own a lowrider........you would know that if were paying attention.... My old ride in 1983.....
Im confused then, why O/T, is a 59 impala on the ground with supremes not a custom ? I.e - " spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods & customs..... I see the word custom, isn't that essentially what a "lowrider" car is, a custom car. Also, is a 59 impala with wide whitewalls and red steelies ok then ? On with the pics...... L
I feel that sure, this board is directed at the old stuff primarily but when asked to see lowriders and people post what they got, they are on this board obviously to begin with so they must enjoy cars as everyone else does, so one shouldnt knock whether its traditional or not, its for the interest in the car hobby and what keeps it goin. Whether it be a late fifties impala, or a full Kustom flaked out late model, the interest is still there, and thats what counts. To me it doesnt matter what someone is building or modifying, as long as they are having fun with it thats what keeps the whole scene alive. If it takes people building late models to introduce new people to the hobby then so be it. In the club I am with we have everything from old to new in there and some of the younger guys that werent into rods and such when they joined with their minitruck or whatever, now are into it from hangin out and being welcomed in, and are starting on there own traditional project ride. So its all good in my mind anyways, but thats my opinion.
Lowriders aren't really my cup of tea (well, I kinda dig the old fat fendered bambas from the pachuco days), but I do appreciate the ingenuity, design and craftsmanship in them. I feel I have much more in common with the lowrider guys than I do with the high zoot streetrod guys. Most lowrider guys do what they do with a lot of style and soul. I don't see that in most of the high zoot streetrod stuff. Style and soul are key when it comes to what we do.
have you been through this? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2716&highlight=traditional+forums
I think that's the best definition yet. It's hard to describe what we do by a set formula. I suppose that's part of the fun, you can't just get a check off list of how to do it right. here are a few pics
I just don't know what it is about lowriders, If I saw any other car with gold spokes and a panel job I would probably beat the guy up(J/k incase any one actually runs a hot rod like this) I just love them, I would probably never build one, but i love to pick up an issue of Lowrider every once in a while, those guys are crazy! Thats probably why I like them, they're all crazy!
This **** is too funny. Well, for those interested they can see my old ACIP DROP on the attached link. http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4063319&a=30416971&pw= and yes, the grille was made from expanded metal polished and 50 valve stem covers with bolts..... Enjoy my old LOWRIDER-ISH CUSTOM, TEJANO INSPIRIED WHITTIER BLVD. "ART LABOE'S MEMORIES OF EL MONTE" CHARP CHORT "Angel Dust".........
A good friend of mine here at work just came by... he's Mexican... and about 50 yrs old... I showed him the link... and he said "Lowriders used to be OUR type of car... now EVERYONE HAS ONE"... So the "hating" probably has more to do with cultural lines than anything... I grew up in Modesto... and from Jr. High on, and had no other choice but to either befriend the Mexican kids at my school or get my *** kicked by them... so, I befriended them. Glad I did. I learned a lot about their culture... and about their cars. To most... it's an expression of their culture and a way to have common ground with others... yet sometimes they would joke that they just wanted a lowrider to scare the **** out of "white upper cl*** old ladies" at the stop light! Hahahaha!! If I was rich... I'd have a Rivi with hydros, candy red flake paint... white tuck and roll, Alpine deck with a Zapco equalizer, four tens in the back... and some skinney whites on tru-spokes faster than you could say "orale holms"... Why? 'cause they're cool... Sam.
I always have to explain this to people. I don't have the ******* money or expertise to build a rod or cutom at this point in my life, monsterflake. I have already told **** Reynolds about this, the cougar was a reward for working my *** off in school and otherwise. That doesn't change my vote over the "lowrider" thing. Customs aint lowriders. Sorry. -Crew
Oh, and P.S. about the zoot-suit thing? Those guys made any attempt to demean servicemen +women during WW2. Their "movement" was to dodge the draft. According to a Stanford professor, Mexican and Latin-Americans of the time resent the label Zoot Suiter. -Crew
. I don't have the ******* money or expertise to build a rod or cutom at this point in my life...That doesn't change my vote over the "lowrider" thing. Customs aint lowriders. Sorry. -Crew i'm not one to pick on people over the internet, but for someone so young and inexperienced, you sure 'know' a lot. ALL lowriders are customs, but NOT ALL customs are lowriders. i'll stop there.
maybe not but lowriders are customs .....especially a traditional low ....look you either get it or you don't ......if i have to keep explaining to you .you will never understand....are you sure the cougar wasn't a punishment ? g***erfreak i am not some internet tuff guy .... you are just some smart mouth kid ..... some people know drag racing history , some hot rod history . ....i know customs and lowriders .... now lets get back to the pics........
hey monsterflake, what happened to your old avatar ?...... if anybody else would have had that i would have said it was mean ..BUT you can have it . i saw that and it made me laugh .....you must have a really good outlook on life and you situation..i commend you on it .......later, donnie
off topic as hell but . . . .wow, you're stupid! I'm sure some did resent the label, but that doesn't change the fact that servicemen mauraded the barrios out of sheer xenophobia. . it was only called a riot when the brown brothers fought back en m***e. History is interesting . . you should actually check it out. . . instead of skimming it for quotes to back up your world view. A little perspective. . . lowriding has been cross cultural from day one. . we just get lazy and give most of the credit to the cholos who impacted it so much in the last 50 years and built a vibrant culture around it. . . but Watson was basically a lowrider.
i like, and have built, lots of different kinds of cars. i'm not putting down 'cougars' , cause i like 'em. i don't like unfounded opinions...

Hey Crewcutkid, Your age is showing, and you're an ignorant little ****er. First, what does a Stanford professor know about growing up in the barrio? My Dad was a Zoot Suiter, and a good friend of mine in his 70s was a Zooter, and what you said would be fighting words to them, and it's got me fired up. You have no idea what you're talking about. Lowriding is alot more than the cars. It is CULTURE, PRIDE and HERITAGE. Latinos p*** down car building from father to son and it is more than just an old kar--it is a member of the family. Alot of Bombs were built by Grandpa and are still in the family. They would no sooner sell the car than have cousin Enrique deported. Do you get it? I don't think so. You're talking like a close minded so and so that I run into all the time. Read, listen and learn before you start flapping your mouth, cabron!
CABRON... ha ha, i love that word!! call people at work that all the time... i just don't like it when the wife calls me it!! (i'm a whetto, she's a seniorita'!!!)
