I am having one hell of a time finding long shank mag wheel lug nuts, help!!! I need long shank lug nuts for a pair of US mag wheels, these wheels were used on a dragster back in the 60's. Wheels have lug holes that are .680" diameter, all the lug nuts I am finding are .683" to .690" diameter. Ordered some off ebay that the seller stated they were .675" diameter but when I got them they were .683". Anyone know of a long shank lug nut that is .675" diameter?

Can you find an 11/16" diameter drill bit, and fix the holes?

If enlarging the holes, I would invest in a reamer over a two flute drill bit, or have the local machine shop do it. Probably less than 30 min job.

Squirrel, Thought of that but wanted to try to find some that fit without drilling the wheels.

Hotrodden, lug nut king is the guy that sold me the lug nuts that were too large.

I was hopping someone knew a part number of nuts that were the proper ones for these wheels.

The part number would be in a catalog that is 50 years old, and the nuts are no longer available. You can fix the problem real easily by making the holes the size they need to be to fit all modern production shank lug nuts. A reamer would be great, a drill will be fine. Heck, some of the shank lug nuts I've got recently have been non concentric by several thousandths of an inch. It is not nearly as critical as you'all seem to be making it sound.

Squirrel, your right, I have some now that measure .683" on one end and .687" on the other end. I'll just use a drill bit to enlarge the holes.

    Jalopy Joker, no.

    Thanks guys.

Instead of modifying your vintage wheels, why not chuck up the nuts and turn them in a lathe to fit the holes. I know its more work, I just hate modifying vintage parts.

Dorf, tried that they have the same .683"-.687"

Dray lakes racer, talked to gorilla tech last week same as above.

Mark t, good idea, don't have a lathe. I hate to modify these wheels, but they're not doing me any good the way they are.

Know a guy that has a lathe but he does not have time before I need them.
