Morning. I've been a lurker for a long time, but never really got onto the site because I'm more into 60s muscle and you guys do a bit more custom and rods and I never had anything interesting to say. I'm personally looking for ratty muscle cars to buy. My goal is to find a nice, straight (but not perfect), running muscle car for cheapish, travel out to get it with my son (who is currently 6) and drive it home. I'd like to fix it up with him and then do the Hot Rod Power Tour. Eventually it would be his car. Personally, I really dig GM A-bodies, X-bodies, early Monte Carlos, 66-67 Dodge Charger, pretty much any Pontiac. I'd pretty much settle for anything interesting. So, a quick history about me and my family: My mom was a 'notorious street racer' in the late 60s and early 70s north of Boston in her 69 GTO. Her and her girlfriend would cruise the marshlands in Revere looking for races and her friend was basically her hype man who would call guys out to race. That's how she met my dad (who was basically a spectator with his Tempest). My dad wasn't much of a gearhead. He had a 74 Grand Prix, a 79 or 80 Ford Capri and then a selection of absolute garbage after that. By the time I was born, she had been out of the muscle cars for almost 10 years. She had a Malibu Wagon when I was born (the ones with the fixed rear windows). However, she bought a Caprice Cl***ic Wagon in the mid 80s and immediately brought it to her friend from her street racer days to have a pre-smog Pontiac 400 installed backed by a transmission that could handle the extra torque. We called it the BattleWagon. It was great for bringing half a hockey team to a game very fast. Also, wayback seats rule. Unfortunately, it rotted to death by 1990 and she changed over to Jeep Cherokees which she stuck with until her untimely death in 2009 when she was struck by a truck while tending to her sick dog on the side of a road. My own car history is pretty spread about. 93 Pontiac Grand Am SE, 75 VW Scirocco, 83 VW GTI, 88 BMW 325iS, 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero, 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon, 92 VW GTI with a motor swap, 95 Audi S6, 95 Buick Roadmaster Estate and currently a 97 BMW 328i and here's my Roadmaster with Flowmasters (fauxmasters more like it...) I really loved this car, but my wife absolutely HATED it. It smelled like old man and she thought I looked like a creepy monster behind the wheel. I worked as a systems engineer for a car dealer network that included BMW, Porsche, Audi, Acura, Lamborghini, Land Rover and MINI and I've also worked for a Lotus/Aston Martin dealer. But deep down, I've always wanted an American V8... So, that's my intro. Hope to participate a bit more around here now. The older stuff is certainly educational for me and I may end up getting something more HAMB approved (pre-65) going forward. There's plenty of awesome cars out there that I appreciate. My friend Lauren has a hemi powered 57 Chevy g***er that is absolutely fantastic Also, for you HAMB guys that do Post-65 cars, are there any decent forums like this out there?
Welcome. Great intro. Sorry about your Mom. It sounds like she was a really cool lady. Good luck in your search for a project for you and your Son.
