I have been lurking here for a few months. Spoken a couple of times but thought I would introduce myself. My name is Duane. I live in Chi Town. My heart pumps gasoline through my veins. I love anything automotive or motorcycle related. I have a very understanding wife. We own a 2004 Explorer and a 1960 Mercury Comet, both dailey drivers. You know which one I drive! I also own a 1950 Buick Super more door that is complete with Warner Bros movie history. The Buick is complete but been parked and the sitting has taken its toll. I am also thinking of selling her. My dream is a Modle A 4 dr Sedan Lo Boy in primer and rust. With zoomies! We also own several scooters, Vespa's. Psychobilly is my music preferance, although I like it all. I have enjoyed this forum so far and I believe I have learned more here than in any book! I am going to try to attach some pictures of the Comet,or as we affectionately called her, the "Vomet". Two of the floor before and two after. She sat in a field in WI since 1975. 32,000 miles, runs great so far! BTW, my first welding job. Tackled with a Lincoln Weld Pac 3200 MIG, 110v from Home Depot. LOVE IT! My pics are too large and I cant reformat at work, so try these links: http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/100_0981.JPG http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/100_0982.JPG http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/PIleUp_0116.JPG http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/PIleUp_0117.JPG
That looks more like a jigsaw puzzle than a floor. I been doin' this for 30+ yaers and I still learn stuff on the HAMB. You've picked a good place to lurk. Welcome
welcome Duane! I was wondering how long it would take for you to find your way here. Why not give us some pictures of THE CAR and not just the floor?
Wow, I'm impressed seeing the pictures of the floor. Nice job. I would have made the driveshaft tunnel deeper if you decide to lower it later. How do I know you? Have we talked on email? Did I buy something from you off eBay? Your username sounds so familiar ...
Wheres the pics of da vespa,s I love shit like that. I ve been threatenin to buy one for years. I used to see heaps of them down here in Oz but there abit few n far betwwen now. A guy up the road recently gave one away, naturally I found out afterwards
Thanks Pork'n'Beaner (the original)- I like challanges. Plus I bought the car site unseen and was stuck! But it was fun. Afterwards I felt like there was nothing I could not do! Joe- Yeah, yeah! I will get some pics here soon. Hoefully it will be seen at the Barons outing in Jan. Considering I wanted it at the last Woodfire cruise! Don Haring- Yeah, I emailed you the other day about the air bags. I never thought about the tunnel. I left it stock height, but what the hey, if I have cut and weld again, cool! Tony- Jan., at the Barons. Unless I just swing by your place unannounced to see the Windsor progress! LEEBO- I have hundreds of pics of the scoots, gotta keep things on topic here! Don't need the "police" after me! Maybe I will sneak a couple in parked next to the Vomet. Duane
OK, now I know how your name came up. Sorry about that. If you drop a Falcon or Comet all the way down, the front can come down pretty far before the strut rod will contact the suspension arm. In the rear, you will bottom out on the trunk floor and then the frame rail and drive tunnel. On my car, we notched out the trunk floor about 2" to provide clearance for the pumpkin. In retrospect, I wish we had made the tunnel deeper and notched the frame. This would cause some problem with the rear bench seat, but without doing all this, the rear doesn't really come down very far. I only mention it because if you have to replace all the floors anyway, it's worth doing now! This will even make the car more desireable if you should sell it later since it's too far gone for a restoration. -don
