I was at the local cruise tonight in my old pontiac when some guy tells me he knows me from the HAMB. What? "Who are you?" I ask... "I'm just a lurker"............. I just wonder how many lurkers there are lurking around and why the hell they don't register? Come on in...the water's fine...
Not as bad as tapping a HAMB T-shirt-wearing guy on the shoulder in a foreign country and saying, "Hey, I'm PEDDRO, from the HAMB!" and getting a "Who? From the what?" Turns out a mate gave him the shirt!!! There's non-HAMBers out there wearin' HAMB shirts....B-E-W-A-R-E!!!

The guy looked at me like I had 5 heads. Here's a hint, dip****, don't act surprised when someone asks about the shirt you are wearing, especially when you are at an event where potential members of that group will be there.
That's gotta be the most poserific gay *** **** ****ing scenster thing I have ever heard of. Why would you wear a T-shirt that indicates a group or product that you have no ***ociation with? Ohh, right - Von Dutch rules too. The HAMBer who sold his T to a pedestrian should be dragged behind a fenderless PU.........

I wonder the same thing... *cough*Tony!*cough* I figure if I'm going to read a board more than a couple times, it is a good idea to sign up and introduce myself.
sometimes kids don't wanna join, cause they'll see johnny bluejeans get reemmed when he didn't say just the right thing....and sometimes you can't tell who's joking and who's an ***hole. it can be intimidating if your not used to holding your own.
Rise up and do a decent intro. I really don't understand why it's so hard for these people. And filling out your profile is pretty difficult. Hmmmm... or maybe I'm being crotchety...

[/ QUOTE ] Ya I lurked here for months for this reason mainly. Too many opinions flying around here. Im sure someone will rip me a new one for even saying this.
I bump into guys almost every time I take the Coupe out that recognize it from the HAMB I ask who they are and they say "oh I read but I don't post" ..... if ya got somethin to say, say it. if ya don't, well that's ok too. Paul
y'know..not all the guys who join and immediately post a cl***ified are just joining to sell stuff..some of us are just computer illiterate and like me, didnt know what part of the site was for general discussions or how to post in my profile ..I swear I really do like hot rods..honest i wasnt just selling a car!! Will
you guys are internet rockstars!!!! my question is why wear a hamb shirt at all? just get the tattoo!!!
and i dont want no stupid excuses from no stupid lurker newbies !!!!im a hot rod god!!!just ask me ill tell you all about it!!
Some people just want to watch life than participate. But these are the people who buy all the magazines, decals, and t-shirts. Lead, Follow or get out of the way!!
Kartbreaker rocks!! I often think about this subject because almost every time I log on there is almost as many anonymous users as reg. ones. It makes you think about who's looking over your shoulder. I know a lurker that reg. about a year ago but is to big a puss to do an intro. (hmm maybe I can smoke him out.)
Rocky that wasn't a lurker ,it was a stalker! He's right outside your window. Close your blinds! Seriously ,I haven't been on here too long and I was PM'ed by an old freind who had relocated. He does Customs and mighty good at it too ,been in Rodders Journal and works for the Stars. He doesn't post much which is a shame , he really knows his ****!
I don't post a whole lot-but I probably have a good answer.. Sometimes it's better to sit(lurk) (and learn something) then open your mouth(post) and look stupid to everyone else.
For any lurkers reading this that are thinking about piping up--but would like to avoid getting slammed by the usual suspects in the group--I humbly offer the Zonkola 3-Step Method: 1) POST AN INTRO. Obvious to many of the long-time lurkers, I know, but there's an effective and easy way to do it. a) Post the intro on the main board, not the cl***ifieds or questions areas b) Don't try to prove how cool or tough you are, just be mellow and stick to the facts. Ex. "Hi, I'm ___ from ___, and I'm currently building a ___ with a ___ engine." Some details and a pic always help. c) Fill out your profile--you only intro once, but a link to your profile is included with each post. 2) MAKE YOUR NEXT POST COUNT. And the one after that, and the one after that... a) P*** on some knowledge. Know the answer to a question? Post it. If you're fortunate enough to have learned some cool stuff, don't brag on it, just share it. You'll be glad you did once you have a question and a bunch of guys want to help you because you helped them. b) Ask an intelligent question. With the HAMB you don't have to be a hot rod genius to be respected--asking good questions and/or posting on topic stuff of interest works too. Chances are that some other HAMBers had the same question, and now it's getting answered, right? Everybody wins. c) See a *****en car? Snap a pic and post it. Pics of nifty hot rods never get old. d) Avoid drama. There are some guys here who are just looking to get a rise out of you. Ignore them and they tend to look for an easier target. 3) RINSE, LATHER, & REPEAT #2. Hey, we're here to talk hot rods, right? Where's the downside? Follow these three steps (and don't be a putz) and I think you'll find your HAMB experience will be better for it.
