I found this place on night when I Googled "old hot rods". Lurked for about a month and when I did start posting, it was baby steps. I didn't post pics of my car for a long time because it seemed like glass cars were forbidden. Oh wait! They still are! I need to log off and go back to lurking!
i liked gettin the flamin after a awhile i don't get out much and have few friends ? . ok i'll say that few people really know the real me i still go back and read my first posts and responses to keep me motivated maybe growin up with 5 ornry brothers .. all this pickin seems normal... heck i resisted sharin on here until i found out it did not mean givin up 3/4 of my candy!
I lurked for quite a while with the ex hubby.... and I was the one into traditional stuff, not him!! It took me a while, but since I made my escape successfully from the muscle car man, I figured it was time and quite appropriate that I post on my own!
I also found this site while googling for hot rods. Lurked for about a month, then started posting a bit. Still spend much more time reading than posting. You can learn a lot by reading all the way through a thread. There is a lot if knowledge amassed here and a bit of silly shit too.
A little over a year. Don't post often as I usually don't have much to contribute worth anything. No, saying I like every car or don't like this and that is not a worthy contribution.
Probably about three seconds. I should have lurked longer, got a ton of shit early on, still do once in a while. Fortunately I didn't join to be popular, make friends or influence people. So I don't let that stop me from chipping in when I know something, or think I know something.
I lurked about 6 months before I joined. Being my first 4 wheeled project I was getting some poor advice and a lack of help from some of the locals, so when I needed information I logged in to search for answers and asked questions. The HAMB community were very instrumental in my success. This is the only website I support and visit everyday.
I joined the day I found out about the site. I read Chopperman's thread over on Pirate4x4 and wanted to be able to bookmark it. I didn't make my first post until I bought a HAMB friendly truck (over two years later).
I was first logged in under a different name, but my old computer crashed and my email was hacked into. Well I had to log in as a different name and different email so I could post again. Oh well, and I had heard about the HAMB for about a year but checked out it a couple times and it "moved" so fast I couldn't keep up, didn't want to join but eventually did and learned the secrets, DONT READ EVERYTHING. I am still in love with the HAMB and the wife even says "go get on the HAMB, get it out of your system already!" She knows its great to hear what other people are doing and whats going on, and she likes when I include her to look at the event pics.
I heard about the HAMB a few years before I joined, but didn't check it out or put any thought into checking it out. When I came across it again and actually checked it out I joined right away. I knew I was in the right place.
its funny, cause im not a social kinda guy at all.rarely do i talk to people that i dont know, or even the ones i do for that matter. at first i just came here to look for parts, and maybe get some technical advice when needed. apperently, i AM quite social when everyones talking about shit that interests me, because i find myself logging in all the time and shootin the shit when im at work.i had no use for a computer, other than ebay, befor i came here whoodda thunk it eh? guess i been into traditional rods and customs my whole life and never even heard the phrase until i came here. sure makes finding parts and solving problems a hell of alot easier. god i love this place
Couple years or so..mostly busy finishing my last project...and too many other forums I don't seem to go to anymore..
CheaterCarl turned me on to the Jalopy Journal and the HAMB in 2003. I lurked for two years before joining this "impersonal" approach to hot rodding. I have worked in Information Technology for 22 years, but was resisting the further intrusion of the computer into my life. I gave up... it's here to stay. The HAMB really works as a social outlet for like-minded people. Sure, there is some drama, but I have that in some of my everyday in-person relationships. Viva la HAMB!
Hello. My name is GizmoJoe and I'm addicted to the HAMB... Found the HAMB while search for dimensions for a 30-31 A truck. Joined right away. Posted after 2 months. Never shown much of my work or asked many questions so not flamed.. yet. Built some tools because of the HAMB (E-wheel and planishing hammer - both from scrap so not pretty, but they work). When I get some money together I'll get a membership. Until then I spread the good word about the HAMB. Thanks to Ryan and all for this place.
I still remember someone telling us about the HAMB and telling us that they would 'probably chew us up and spit us out'. LOL The guy who told us about it never posts here anymore ..and Im still around. Hmmmm....
Found out about H.A.M.B. during the WWW war with the original RRT site. I came here and read a lot during that time and appreciated the knowledge here, but not the juvenile attitudes. The original RRT kinda fell apart and i came here and joined under another name and only posted a couple times. When the current RRT came along I went back there and just lurked here for quite a while. This board changed format and I came back and rejoined under my current name, my old name and password didn't work anymore. I like the way this site has matured, not too much to be no fun, but enough to be more productive.
Before the suedes some friends of mine posted on another board, ive always been a computer nerd, i was into online gaming(role playing, like Ultima,Diablo, and Everquest) throughout highschool and college, was always into cars, just never searched the webn for em much. my Now current club member showed me this site, I joined right around the time with all the Drama with Marcus was going down, Germ still posted somewhat, and Mudd was still here. A pretty rough time for newbs. i pretty much just kept to myself unless i had something to say that held water or could answer someones question. This site has been a huge education for me.
I heard about it and I was lurking for as long as it took me to wait for me confirmation email!!! Can get enough of this place.
I lurked for a year and joined so I could participate in an auction. I learned about this site from Arkies hotrod and I believe 49 ratfink talking about this Hamb site on the Ebay motor board, sounded interesting so I went searching and found it.
I lurk outa' respect. Without any question there are some tremendously talented people here. I'm just a hack tryin' to build a hot rod. I have learned much by example. I also respect the traditional movement. But I started this POS 14 years ago... before (my experence with) the internet. What did I know? If I were starting from square one again I'm sure I would do things differently. Still proud of my acomplishments. They just don't jive with the well advertised focus of this board.
Well I'm a lurking member. It's been a year or two since I've read that, READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST THING! SO I'm getting braver.
