  1. I found this site in 2002 I think .I found a link on the old primer site. Found the Hamb and couldn't really believe it. I signed up as "whotrod" and posted only on things pertaining to Hawaii. Lost my computer for a while and became Hilo hotrodder I live in a very rural area the Hamb is my social life more or less. but I guess I am a pro luker

I see a lot of guys in the still lurking cat., I pretty much get on here everyday. I have less than one post per day, but I have gained alot of knowledge from reading the good and the bad threads and have met some really great people.

I was afraid of getting ass raped by Germ, so I lurked at least a year or so. I also did not have HAMB friendly ride at the time. But I knew Willowbilly from another site and finally decided to bite the bullet. I must have written and re-written my intro ten times before going live! LOL

I lurk rather than contribute because I don't have a hot rod, let alone a garage to build in - I live on the 4th floor near the center of a Scottish city and will be here for a few years yet. The hamb is one of a few sites I look at most days, enjoying the cars and workmanship and looking forward to the day I get a nice A coupe.
In the meantime I'll shut up, not say anything stupid and learn as much as I can.

Man, just because you don't have a car to work on, doesn't mean you don't have anything to add! Feel free to chime in, anytime! ;)

    The more, the merrier!

Who knows? You may well hold the key answer to some question asked on here that could be the turning point in someone's project!

At least a couple of years. Not being a computer person slowed my progress as I had to learn how to just apply for membership!

I too remember the Cheater Slick picture. That was cool.
Don't post much because there is so much know how here i keep learning in amazement.
Besides; I was told in grade school "empty wagons make a lot of noise." I much prefer the noise of open headers screamin....

  14. Probably lurked for a year or so, was always taught to spend more time "tuned-in" than "broadcasting". Still only average about one post evey four days but am on here daily reading.

Would have probably kept lurking longer except that one day I was pulling a Buick Nailhead out of a '50 Chevy at Backstreet Kustoms. Up walks this guy and jumps right in and starts helping, it was Ray from here on the HAMB. A genuinely good guy.

I signed up right after that.

Another web site I was visiting had a thread about how hot rodders did shitty & dangerous work and refered to the HAMB. The thread was about a Mustang II front end failure. I checked it out for the technical info and signed up a month or two later........which is why I haven't gotten a lot done over the past 6+ %#!* years !! :D

  17. Lurked for quite awhile. Then realized the speed at which a great post from one morning could be on the bottom of page eight when I got home from work. Decided to join to gain use of ye ol magnificent search button.
Love the tech articles. I'll still be watching everyday, mainly keyboard mouth shut, monitor ears open.:D

About a week or so. I asked a couple of questions early on and promptly got my a## handed to me. I generally only post when I feel I can contribute something or need to ask a question. There's so much to read and learn on here - definitely my favorite forum out of all of the ones I've been on. I will try to post more pics of my car soon - after I move all the cr#p off of it.:D

I didn't lurk but kept reading things about "the guys on the H.A.M.B." written by guys who were on a since defunct board in BC. That led me here.
Although I don't consider myself a purist I still value what the H.A .M.B. expounds.
The best part at least for me is the sincere effort by many fellow members to actually offer good and solid advice to people asking questions that sometimes may seem rather simple if the person asking the question had taken a few minutes to do a bit of research.

  25. i think my mind has changed , the HAMB is the best thing on the net for hotrods and i have made many great friends .... of course there is a shitload of yall that are a bunch of fags:D

I am with DrJ on this one.

I lurked way back on the pokemon HAMB. I can't remember how long ago that was.....

I lurked because I didn't have a car and the the HAMB used to be nothing but thugs, lol. If you got on here and didn't know about old cars you got the ass kicking of your life.....

And posers were dispatched with in a hurry. Now I can see a bandwagonerin just about every post. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to. I am willing to accept someone who has never been into this stuff before - and I would rather teach them more about our cool hobby than to kick them in the balls about being a newb.

Then again, we're all really soft nowadays....

My post count was reset on one of Ryan's refurbs along with the date. But I could care less about post count. I put no value in that at all. SOme of the smartest fuckers here have almost nothing for a post count.

I can remember that there were less than 200 members or so on the whole fucking site. Now there are more than 200 members in some of the niche Social Groups. (I refuse to plug here.... :) )

  27. U=554 nice. Wish I had at least signed up back in 02'. I was only a kid back then 16 with a dream. Had the cheapest thing to having a hot rod, not HAMB material at all a Volksweezle. Its scary the growth but good also 73,256+ now.-Weeks=59625, ouch.

I didnt really give a shit about the message board for years, but the Jalopy Journal - the one from years ago especially - was just great. But I realized there was a lot to be gained from the tech posts here, so I joined. I think that was like 04?

Still dont post that much but every once in a while I'll kick in a post
