How much oil should be seen in the top end of a freshly rebuilt 368 LYB engine? I have the rocker covers off and there isn't much flow to the rockers (when driven with a drill) .I am getting about 40 + pounds of oil pressure on the gauge. I did bump the engine around to make sure that cam positioning was changing for oiling. There is some flow which is greater on the left side BUT both sides appear to have not much flow. Are these LYB engines the same as a 312 and have 3 points to align the cam bearings oil passages for proper lubrication? Oldmics
Not much, I think. I had a 292 and it didn't wasn't anything like a SBC without the valve covers on when the engine was running. My 235 doesn't have much oil to worry about when setting the valves, either. I bet that engines with rocker shafts have a lot less excess oil flowing up top than engines with valve trains like SBC and BB Chevys.
have done this recently on engine stand using drill you wont get much oil flowing from rockers just a trickle out the top holes when idling remove the rocker assembly ,use drill, oil should pour out each head passage not squirt check rocker stands and shafts assembled correctly to enable oil flow upwards make sure lifter gallery plug has been installed ( inside valley cover at front )
When I rebuilt the Hemi for my Dodge and started it I got as nervous as a hooker in church when I didn't see oil pouring out of the rockers. I called down to Hot Heads Hemi and Bob told me that I was "Hollerin' before I was hurt". Do NOT expect that Hemi to throw oil around like those small block Chevy's do he said. They're designed to keep the oil, for the most part, in the pan where it does the most good. I expect that is the same with you Ford. Like Sunbeam say's, if you see oil, your good .....
