At some point over the years, my Grandmother had rode in each of my Dad's or my hot rods, but I don't think she had more fun then when Dad had a '29 A roadster.

I picked her up from the Senior Center's weekly Bingo and was waiting right in front of the door. All the ladies commented how their husbands had one when they got married.

I think she liked the A because it reminder her of the one her folks had. She was also the only person I never said anything to about stepping on the running boards.

Great thread. I was parked on the street the other day in my '33. I started it to leave & noticed a four-door Buick approaching, I looked down to attach my seatbelt & when I looked up there was a little blue-hair ogling the hot rod with a hugh smile on her face. Ya gotta love it.

  11. When I was headed for Dragweek this year, I stopped in Amarillo for gas and there was a nice restored 31 ford vicky at the pumps with an old couple in it getting ready to pull out. I jumped out of my car (<<<avatar) and went over to the passenger side and told them "you have a beautiful car". The old lady looked me in the eye and said "You did at one time"!!! I didnt know what to say to that, and they drove off. Then we laughed our butts off.

  12. It didnt print all of my post. I went to the passenger side and said "You have a beautiful car to which the old lady responded with "You did at one time"!!! I didnt have anything to say at that point and they drove off. We laughed about it for days after.

Have you ever had someone ask you if you're the original owner when it's way obvious you couldn't be? I am 30 years old, and had someone asked me if my 1960 car was bought by me new.... Wow, really? Either my car looks brand new or I look kinda old.

These stories do make my laugh - my pappy just passed away at 92 a few months back. He always thought my old car hobby was foolish but still liked to talk about his first 1939 Studebaker and other old cars he had during the war.

We were at a car show and there was a '63 Impala with hydros in 3 wheel motion but parked. I will never forget his voice in his southern Alabama drawl, "That cars got a broken spring!"

    Ha, ha!

I had a guy today asking about what engine was in my car. Which I answered a flathead. He said the last year of flatheads was 52. I said yep...

Maybe later, the guy thought. No it was 53 and that guy doesn't know sh*t about his car.

    Maybe it doesn't matter :p

You did the right thing and NEVER doubt that !

In 1996 I was at a car show with a local car club and had, had enough of the "eye with thier hands" group of people. I got pissy with a guy who for no reason started lifting the hood open more on my car and told him "we look with our eyes, not with our hands". While yelling at the guy, I noticed a kid next to the car and was about ready to yell at him too when I saw his wheelchair.
Changed my mind and let the kid sit in my car for pictures as his mom thanked me time after time until they were gone. Found out a week later, he was a cancer "make a wish" kid whose wish was to go to a car show.
To sit in my car made his day and the families as well.

When you get into a habit of lying to old ladies it’s a tough one to break.
I was having lunch at a restaurant in St. Augustine yesterday and as I was coming out so were 4 little old red hat ladies. They liked my truck and were asking about it and…..well… “Is that the original color? “

I think it is always good to offer edlerly people a ride when they are really interested in your Hot Rod or old car, you never know how much good you can do in a 10-15 drive around the block or what you might learn.

I gave an old man a ride in my '36 roadster hot rod a few years back at a local car show, he thought my roadster was fine '32 and was grinning ear to ear.

I've gotten a lot of comments from older folks over the years about my 34 coupe, but my favorite was when an older lady asked if my car had a rumble seat. Hmmmm.

After we got the old 48 dodge coupe running, we took it down to my wife's grandparents' house. When we got there her grandfather came out on the porch and his eyes lit up! He said " Wow, does it still have the fluid drive?" And proceeds to tell me that he had a 48 four door right after he got married and loved that car cause "all the bar buddies and wives could fit". I told him "well in that case...." and threw him the keys. His eyes just lit up and without a word, he climbed in, fired up the flat six and it was like he drives one every day. He took me around to all the old "watering holes" and told stories about run ins with John Law and how "you'd better be a smooth talker, because that ol fluid drive couldn't outrun a schoolbus!" I sure had a blast and I know he did too. It was worth every minute.

We were camping at Garner State Park, "THE state park in Texas", a few years ago and had also driven the Track Car down for the week. I wrote "Garner Girls Ride For Free" across the top of the windshield in grease pencil. My son drove the car around the park and stopped at the Park Store. When he came out a very large and in charge older woman was standing by the roadster. He got in and she said loudly, "I'm a Garner Girl, can I ride right now?". He told her he had to get back to camp because he bought his Mom some milk for lunch...zzzzzzoooommmmmm.
He got back and told us about that and we laughed for hours!

I had a little old lady come up to my 1938 Chevrolet sedan and she looked in the back seat. And with a twinkle in her eys she said " I SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN THE BACK SEAT OF THESE OLD CARS " We just smiled.

The very first trip I took in my 57 Plymouth Suburban 2dr wagon was to get some gas around the corner from my house. The woman behind the counter said she knew exactly what it was. Okay, I'm thinkin, its an unusual car, lets see if she knows.

She hesitated a minute, then said, "I can't think of the word, but its one of those cars they take dead people to the cemetery in!"

    People are great sometimes.

And some spellcheck. "You're" is a contraction for 'you are', not 'your (ownership)
    But then, you're from ...there.
