I have some late 40s early 50s Lyon brand hubcaps dose anyone know where they were made? What year range where they made and sold? Any pics and info would be great </O> <O </O> <O ></O>
Definitily not Desoto, maybe Peugeot, they used a lyon in it's logo, not sure if they used caps like you show but it's just a quess
come on guys I know they are after market caps sold in the late 40's early 50's not Desoto not Peugeot thay are AFTER MARKET what im looking for is pics and history...
i have a hubcap collection in my garage. while cleaning some of the caps , i noticed most of them had this stamp on them. sometimes in cursive. the weird thing is that the "lyon" stamp is on caps from all different makes. was lyon a big cap manufactuer ? did they have their own caps for the aftermarket?
Here's a few pics. I don't have any history other than what you already know. Fifties aftermarket, way cool.
J.C. Whitney used to sell a lot of those types of caps in their old catalogs. Other than that I got nothing.
I know this is not the classifieds-section but if anybody has some of the smooth Sombrero-style hubcaps with red center in 15" or maybe even 16" for sale,or know where to find some,I would be very thankful !
Lyon sold to GM & other car makers during the '50s - a friend has a set of never used genuine '54 Olds Fiestas in the yellow & black labeled GM box, caps stamped Lyon.
From what i have been told on the Lyon hub caps they were mostly available on the East coast. The Timbs Special has a set and trying to find a set of four that match and can be repaired is next to impossible. they were one of the extremely hard items to round up for the car, This car has 15" rims the 16 Lyon caps are a little easier to locate. and not to knock them down but they are pretty thin and a pain to metal finish. The search engine is down right now but i had was looking for some of theses caps a while ago and their was some good info off that thread. Rex
I finally found some one to work these out for me and they turned out great. I know this might seam like an add but these guys treated me right and i could not be happier with how they turned out sen the caps out to get the lettering done last night.
