I searched the tech archives and couldn't come up with an answer. This request seems impossible to me but a solution would be helpful. other than braking the clip by ripping it out, is there a way to remove the push rod from a master cylinder?
    Thanks,
    Billy

All the ones I have had just sit in there. Have you tried snap ring pliers?
    What are you working on?

it's a 92 mustang manual dual reservior m/c. the push rod has a clip in the groove on it that mates with a groove inside the piston on the m/c.

It does not have to be there. I always just clamped the pushrod in a vise and smacked the mounting flange of the M/C with a hammer. Or get the cylinder real close to the vise and use a pair of prybars. Run into that retained pushrod years ago when adding a power booster to a car with manual brakes.

There you go. Most of the time they have some funky retaining clip holding the rod in, no way as close to being as heavy as a snap ring.
