A few years ago a friend of mine gave me a great spray bomb from his machine shop. He said he used it everywhere he wanted a super tough paint for steel. Now I can't find the paint, or the friend. It was dark grey/bronze. It has a great texture to it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? He said it was very popular in machine shops, and expensive.
Nope. Not from the look of the cans on the website. I remember it didn't have any color options or specs, just a purpose-made paint for preserving metal. It is hard to see, but I painted the centers on my 64 goat with it. I just scuffed the chrome for prep with a scotchbrite pad and it never chipped or lifted in three years of (hard) driving.
I'm not sure of the name, but where I work, we have a spray bomb that is actually stainless steel pigment suspended in a liquid. I know some guys that have used it on engine blocks and this is from several years ago and it looks like they were sprayed yesterday.
I work in the machine shop of a food processing plant and where all the production equipment is stainless steel or aluminum. It is rare when I fabricate using regular mild steel but when I do, we use this AMER-STEEL product. It actually contains 316L stainless steel in the liquid and drys to a dark gray color. This stuff is great. I put togther a big block Camaro a few years ago and sprayed the 3 1/2 exhaust with this product. I sold the car two years later and it still looked fresh. It even outlasted the brand new coated $700 ****** Headers that looked like hell after only one year. They were peppered with small rust spots. I'm not sure of the vendor but I'll find out.
