Is it my imagination or have Macs shipping costs gone crazy? To make it worse it seems they are sending parts which it appears they have in stock one at a time, that has to contribute to the high cost. Any way to convince them to send all the items they have in stock in one shipment, BO items later? $29 for a bunch of small parts that would fit in a 32 glove compartment seems a bit over the top. Thanks

Try talking to THEM about it.

I once had a huge order with a supplier. Part of the order was a couple hundred brake line ferrules. They shipped the complete order but 4 of the ferrules because I had depleted their inventory. I didn't give it a second thought until a couple weeks later the 4 ferrules showed up,,,,,,,, with a $18 shipping bill charged to my account. $1 in parts for a $19 price tag. I called them up and although they wouldn't do anything about the $18 they made a note on my file to ask me if there is ever another backorder what to do.

Maybe if you explain to Mac's that you want the whole order at one time, they can hold the order till ready, BUT, you then don't get to cry about time frames for backordered shipments.

It is over the top, in my opinion. I only ordered from them once and never placed another order, for this exact reason.

might be they are shipping from different vendors.

but maybe they are just overcharging

I buy so few new parts, but I refuse to feel like getting overcharged. I look up parts on some bigger sites to see what can fit/or compare, then go look on ebay where the vendors are "encouraged" to do free shipping. The free ship is not the point, but it keeps them from gouging on the "total buy it now price", which means lowest place always gets the sale.

Then I have a good laugh as the google ads show up a few days later from the companies I did not buy it from

They charge shipping by how much the items cost, not anything to do with how much shipping actually costs. There is a chart on their site and I believe in the printed catalogs, so at least you should know going in. If they ship your order in one box or 5 it costs you the same. I do believe there was an option to have them hold items if not in stock, maybe they called to ask, I don't remember.
I needed 4 seat emblems, $105 plus $18 to ship, could fit in an envelope. I bought somewhere else.
I've bought a lot from Macs over the years and have had good customer service, calling me for clarification, etc. However they messed up on my last order and after repeated phone calls to 3 people, they continue to treat me as trying to get one over on them. Wasn't until they actually looked at their own printed catalog and noticed their mistake that they backed off. They still haven't refunded me the difference but I ended up with the right parts. Not sure if the difference is being bought out by Eklers, but I look elsewhere first. Sorry for the rant.

I have bought tons from Mac's. Over the past few years they have gone out of sight plus slow shipping. I quit buying from them. And, yes, I have talked with them, written them, etc. No help, it is what it is.

Thanks to all who had positive suggestions and a special Thanks to G***erbob for reminding me of Snyders, I completely forgot about those folks who were always nice to deal with. Time for a change as we will be spending a bunch on the new project.

The funniest thing from Macs/Ecklers was the ad encouraging me to buy something for my Ford so that I would "Be the First One to have This". haha, that probably works on Corvette people.

Think it kinds typical, a good business grows, sold to suits that never worked in the place; everything becomes about the numbers, and of course customer service is not a profit center.

I just bought some parts from Macs last week,it was all small parts and the shipping was just a little less then the parts. I did not want to buy them but a window roller broke so I tried to buy enough to justify the shipping cost.

This subject has been beaten to death over on the FordBarn. Macs is notorious for outrageous shipping costs. I think most people over there stopped buying from them, I know I did.

I bought something small from Macs on eBay, shipping was reasonable, like $4.95 or so. But I'm hip to their shipping prices. I've spent thousands at Coucours Ford and C & G Ford parts. Always decent shipping. One item from Concours shipped directly from Carpenter, no add-on for that.

BTW, both vendors I mentioned, they called me personally before Xmas to say thanks for spending a ****load of money with them.

They sell junk! Be very careful on what you buy from them. Every time I buy something I regret it.... And yes the shipping is ridiculous.

I just looked at the invoice and it was 23 dollars for the parts and 9 dollars for shipping, what I bought was 4 window rollers and a headlight adjuster kit that did not even weigh a 1/2 pound and could have been mailed in a envelope for much less then the much bigger box they were shipped in and by UPS.

The cost of shipping has gone out of site....blame UPS or FedEx before pounding on vendors. The price of diesel fuel is at a 10 year low, yet I'm still seeing fuel surcharges on my dumpster bill. As hard as I tried when I owned a mail order business, I never found a shipping clerk that would work for free and I've yet to find a vender that would give me brand new cardboard boxes for free. Watch shipping prices take another jump when minimum wages start hitting $15 an hour.

Try being Canadian, I needed a pigtail for a neutral safety switch on a C3 ford ******, only Ron Francis had it, $29 u.s dollars, $29 dollars shipping, plus exchange, came to just under $75 bucks. Excellent quality piece, but my **** still hurts.

Again, Thanks to all who offered similar stories and positive suggestions, I know I am not alone in this. Yesterday I got five separate items, all very small, in five separate boxes. Those five items could have all been put in one of the containers. I'm no shipping expert but it seems logical that shipping cost could have been drastically saved by doing that. That would seem to be a win-win for everyone but the USPS. It would also seem that if they read these comments from us, their customers, they might get their act together. Thanks again!

I don't agree to move the blame those two shippers. UPS does not want residential customers, don't know about fedex

I DO blame the parts places, because they could use US Mail. Small stuff listed above by others, can be shipped for $2 or less using first cl*** mail. Heavy stuff with Flat Rate.

Screw these greedy pigs, they don't care. But they will cry like babies when sales tank.

Some people don't understand overhead, shipping materials and labor costs. Warehouses, boxes, bubble wrap, tape and someone to pack it are not free. Typically the fee refers to "shipping & handling" yet people get bent out of shape when the postage itself is less than what was charged for shipping and handling.

For those who complain about a particular vendor, get a life. No one is forcing you to buy from anyone. If you think you can do it better, go into business yourself, and start selling the same parts Mac's sells. Then come on here and let us all know how it turned out.

When I buy something online, before I buy, I calculate the cost of item plus shipping and handling. If I think the total cost is worth it, I buy. If I think the total cost is too high, I p***. It's not really more complicated than that.

I buy a lot of parts on eBay, not light things either... and free shipping. One thing was a new Cardone Chevy water pump, to my door was $23.50, how do you stay in business like that?

I use Joe's Antique Auto Parts for my early ford stuff. Their shipping is very fair

They offered me expidited shipping for an extra fee, if I paid a few dollars more they would move my order ahead of the guy that called in just before me. I still order from them, but they are the absolute last resort. Anybody do that to a customer doesn't deserve loyalty, I use them more than order from them.

Just ordered a few small things, haven't arrived. I called today, said they are consolidating and closing one of their warehouses. I was done wth them before I saw this thread. Glad I'm not alone on this. I tried Brattons, local supplier out of Maryland. Very happy with them.
