so I am scheduled to pick this little flatty up Saturday and was curious to know a bit more about these angle drive mags? Good for street use? Pros and cons? I personally have never seen one.

I've run a mag on the street(in a flatmotor) and they work great...I don't know why that one wouldn't be the same unless the advance is locked down...

I have three, one that works best is locked at 20 degrees. That motor looks like a nice find.

does the mag being locked hurt the low end performance, or are you splitting the difference? I've never run one like that on the street...just curious.

Low end performance suffers more from the 400jr cam and the three 97's than the mag being locked.

Well decided to do a minor tear down of the engine to clean, inspect all surfaces, replace gaskets etc..come to find out it's a pretty well built "keystone" ford flathead(41 merc)
Contemplating on running the 81's that I had laying around the garage or 97's that came with the flatty. Either way, I'm rebuilding all the carbs and also sent the scintilla magneto off to a gentleman named Spud to have rebuilt;)
