  2. Ok, I'll play. Motor Wheel Flys were my mag of choice. I owned two sets. 15x4 fronts with 15x10 and 15x14 rears. Only mags I ever liked. Even went so far as to make my own stainless lugnuts for them. They fit the image of what I thought mags should be. Light, clean, and really cool looking. Ran 'em on all my hotrods. If they didn't wear Flys, they wore steel.

The garden hose caddy I bought had rubber wheels with centers that looked like 5 spokes. So I painted them silver. I did the same to my ice chest.

I had to click on this thread after reading its ***le... Yea right ? Wrong- After looking at the pictures most wheel combinations refer to the 1960s but we build our cars usually in an era or time frame we prefer. In this time frame we usually go with what was being used by the HOT RODDING Fast guys of that period, I spread my allegiance between Model As and the finest muscle cars of the 1960s so our cars run PERIOD CORRECT wheels like Kelsey Hays wheels for the As and the ever popular 5 spoke mags of all varieties for my 1960s muscle cars.OOH my, I even run a set of vintage Center lines on one of my cars because it reflects the time frame of the 70s and early 80s time frame and how good it felt to run them back in the day. Still lost in the 50s thru the 80s oh well.

Right there with you, there was something about them that stirred an inner mechanical emotion with me, kind of like the first time I saw a Dow 7 coated Halibrand on a FED.
I think Gary Kollofski and Scott Sullivans' 55 Chevy street cars raised the awareness of the M/W and Monocoque wheels for people not ***ociated with drag racing, even though they were not intended to be used for street use.
Sullivan found that out on one of his cross country forays, if I remember correctly he bent a front wheel when encountering a pothole.

if you like the factory steel wheels that is up to you but every rodder I knew growing up couldn't wait till they could afford a set of "Mag Wheels"....Torque Thrusts and Cragar SS were always my favorites...My rod has Torque Thrust pizza cutters on the front and 10 inch deep dish on the rear... 2019 St. Paddys day car show.jpg

  8. Most of my cars back then were never intended for street use either, least that's what local law enforcement kept telling me, so Flys fit right in. You just had to be a little more alert to road hazards. Never had a problem with mine.
